Does anyone on here have any idea as the purpose of these trips? Is it just to keep up route knowledge. Seen today it was just a Pacer with the driver on board.

Route knowledge for "Farewell to the Pacers" tours. They will be booking after Christmas. We just don't know which Christmas.

Might it be a training run in anticipation of Northern's new Chester - Manchester Victoria ( - Leeds?) service? They'd presumably already have route knowledge beyond Earlestown.
