I Just saw NR's newly named 57312 with a LM 'Desiro' 350120 in tow on the 5O57, appears to be on it's way to Northam depot from Northampton. Caught me by suprise this afternoon so I did'nt really get the chance of a photo, I was unaware LM sent units to Northam for maintenance, I assumed Siemens had their own facilities on the WCML for the 350s?

5O57 surely?

Perhaps it is to use the wheel lathe as I am sure that a 350 has been down there for this in the not too dim and distant past (hauled both ways by a class 67 and barrier wagons).

STOP PRESS: It was 350 120 (also!) which returned on 8th / 9th April this year hauled by 67011 on 7Z02 18:36 Northam to Northampton.

Opps! Yes it was 5057 sorry! If the mods could change the title that would be great thanks!

You are not the only one I've spoken to who has mentioned the wheel lathe, this could be very possible. Ironic it's the same unit that went down back in April too. Problem unit perhaps?

Next time i see any of the guys i know over in Siemens, i'll try and find out. Anyway, 57312 is due to return 350120 back to Northampton this evening / tommorow morning. Running as 5Y57, the combination is leaving Northam at 16:58, will run to Woking (arr 18:36) where it will stable overnight, before returning back to Northampton in the morning.

Why can't the 350 run by itself as 350/1 can have shoes fitted as they did when a few worked with Southern

Well the shoes have been removed and it would probably be a bit of a faff to just to fit them for this move and also I imagine you'd struggle to find a driver that signed both 350s and the route to Northam but you might be able to find one that does sign 57s.
