Removed by road from Barrow Hill yesterday the remains of 56040 has been transported to Thomson's, Stockton for breaking up.

Proves how much the 'standards' have been raised in restoration though, fair play to the 'Owning Group' for making the decision to dispose of it for a better condition one.

If the parts that 56 040 has donated help to keep a better condition 56 running for longer, its scrapping will not have been in vain.

Some of those bogie components look like new! Surely that's a waste, or did they come back the other way after being relieved of the loco on top of them?!

There look to be an awful lot of components still in place on the loco, why was it sent for scrapping whilst still practically whole?
