I travelled on a 455/7 today, and in the 508 car, the doors have a plate on them (between the windows and seal, about 1/4 of the way up). Does anyone know why this is?
Well, when the Class 313s were first built, they had handles there that passengers could tug in order to open the doors. These were later removed though, as passengers were tugging them too hard and opening the doors before the train had come to a stand. Whether the Class 508s also had them, I don't know, but if they did then that's why.
