50006 and 50011

Hi all,

Having just seen locos numbered 50006 and 50011 through Nuneaton they appear to be listed as scrapped, but looking further into it the numberd 50007 and 50049 keep popping up.

Does anyone know if and why have these locos been renunbered and if the numbers of 007 and 049 are correct?

Will have to check but if my memory serves me correctly, 50.006 was 1st to be scrapped

Aiui someone has paid a significant amount of money, to the fifty fund, to have them renunbered on one side and when they go back they get the nameplates.

Both 50007 and 50049 were renumbered 50006 and 50011 for their recent railtour to Penzance. They are only numbered 006 and 011 on one side. Carry their real numbers on the other side as you can see from these pictures (Not mine by the way)

50011 was the first to be withdrawn, but it survived for a while as a mobile test bed for rebuilt class 50 engines in Crewe Works with a hole cut in the side for cables, cut up in 1992.
50006 was the second to be withdrawn but was cut up in 1988, which I think was the first as Delt1c said.

50011 was effectively a spare body shell because after a number of failures involving cranks/con rods going out the side of the engine there weren't enough engines for the whole fleet. And that was after the parts from DP2 were added to the spares pool
