Hi All,

I wanted to start a new thread on the restoration progress of the Network Southeast’s group 4 CIG 1753. It would be great to see progress and any updates on the unit.

Network Southeast Society

Anyone know whats going on with the Network Southeast Society? Emails being sent out that says the Society is being shut down by the Management?

The fundraiser page has some details of the unit at Burton, not sure if updated as the fund level is low and the unit needs some bodywork. Unless anyone has more info?

While it is fantastic to see the VEP visit the Watercress and I'd love to see a NSE liveried CIG at the Bluebell, does anybody know if 3417 will be visiting its home railway this year? She seems to be missing from the visitor section on the Bluebell website.

I’ve heard that it might not be this year, but we’ll have to see - hoping my sources are wrong!

Is the the 2nd or even 3rd vehicle of the 4TC ?
I was under the impression there was already a driving car om the line, and thought there was a photo of it at Corfe Castle a year or two ago. The number 76275 is in my head

I think you mean Burton ;)

Regarding 1753 though, no idea. I’ve not seen any photos from Burton for a bit of a while now and even from the drone shots the CIG has been obviously kept inside. However, I really do wonder though if it would be ready - you only have to follow the SETG to see how painstakingly slow and methodical keeping Gordon alive has been, and that was in a better condition than 1753 already.

Third vehicle - two are completed or nearly completed at Swanage, one is completed at Ramparts and one is still under overhaul at Ramparts.

Thanks, seems it is now owned by the Network Southeast Railway Society Ltd with a single director based in Sussex, rather than the disbanded society.
He seems to also be involved with the Bluebell Railway.
Although the just giving website is still live, the https://www.cig1753.com website has not been updated, so visit both with caution.
The Facebook group needs authentication so can't see if it has any updates.

It was always privately owned. It was never 'owned' by the society - hence one of the main reasons the Society was disbanded.
I'd steer well clear of any involvement of 1753.

Further to other comments, I’ve seen photos taken at Burton from the railtour which paid a visit to the site this week - it’s still outside and in Connex livery, so I feel people are very much reading into an old image. I’d be surprised if the unit was readied in time for September.

Maybe the 'owner' of 1753 has decided not to make good on another of his promises..

1753 is owned by the sole Director of Network Southeast Railway Society Limited, a company setup by that individual after they purchased the unit from the ROSCO in 2005.
