It is doing its last ever runs today before it is taken to Crewe by 40145 to be scrapped, for spares for the duff fleet down there.

A shame I think, as it's a nice loco. I spent a lot of time refurbishing the cabs too...

Others of you may also be interested to know that 55022 is having it's new engine fitted today, after we failed to do it on Friday and Saturday.

47575 looks in good shape. Couldn't whoever owns 575 mainline certify it and buy a 47 from the EWS tender list and use that as spares

Electrically, it's shot. I really can't see what the big fuss is about some Class 47 which has never been in preservation going for scrap! Lots of operational (or semi-operational) locos have been switched off and then scrapped in the past, why all the gibbering about this one in particular?

Why would you scrap a working preserved loco was the quote I was given by a man heavily involved with the loco at the ELR at the MRC Chopperfest today. It may be a bag of nails, have no long range fuel tanks and therefore-in his own words-'useless' BUT it has a lot of working parts. It will be STRIPPED but NOT scrapped.

That's what I meant. It's electrically knackered and will only start from one end, but most of the physical components are fine. The bogies in particular in are in great shape.

It's a shame really, as I prefer it to 47402, our other duff.

Not sure. I'd have thought it would actually, but I don't think 575 went with it. If the duff is going, 145 will come and pick it up this week in time for Saturday I'd have thought.
