As we all know, 47430 carried the red stripe Scotrail livery in it's days north of the border. But, it's claimed on the class 47 website that it apparently had a blue stripe, but no evidence can be found. Did it, like 47461, carry a blue stripe like the 47/7s?

It does Simon, cheers. Personally, I've never seen evidence of it carrying a blue stripe, I had been wondering if anyone else had.

I have a photo of it passing through Newcastle on some cement tanks in November 1987, it has the red stripe on it, and the black on yellow Scotrail stag logo.

Always wondered why more ScotRail 47s didn't get the blue stripe given that they had 'ScotRail' vice 'InterCity' branding.

Possibly to do with their sphere of operation.
1. Chris Green's brand befitted the dedicated Glasgow-Edinburgh sets.
2. I suspect the Scottish 47/4s had scope to stray south. Even in those fledgling days of sectorisation, it wasn't cost effective to repaint them all; and it wasn't practical to limit a few repainted examples to 'within region only' diagrams.

And InterCity may have already had first dibs on them anyway.

I'm pretty sure 47461 was the only non 'shove duff' to gain ScotRail blue stripe colours. There was a feature on this livery a few years ago in issue 95 of Rail Express, I'll dig out my copy when I get home and see what it says, unless anyone else manages to beforehand.

The story was that 430 was sent out on a test run from works with a blue stripe. Someone realised the mistake and it was changed to red before release to general traffic. The chances of anyone having a photo if this is true are therefore fairly slim.
