455 on the WLL

Today at 5:40 there was a Southern Class 455 on the West London Line anybody got any ideas where it was going to and where it was coming from.

1745 starts Shepherds Bush to Purley?

A peak service which only runs south of Shepherds Bush so it doesn't need a dual voltage unit.

That must mean the ECS reverses from down to up somewhere around there, it seems to arrive at SB n/b at 1732.

I did hear a suggestion a while back they were going to reverse in the depot departure line, but I'm not sure if that actually happens. Maybe it is only needed once LO go up to 4 tph on the WLL?

Does anyone know exactly what the routine is?

They run up to North Pole and reverse over Mitre Bridge Jct. Perfectly normal to see a 455 up there.

Shepherd's Bush to Clapham Junction via the WLL, then at Clapham it connects to the BML (Brighton Mainline) then via Norbury and East Croydon to Purley.

Yes I did. The options seem to be either to reverse on the main WLL up or down lines just south of North Pole depot via the cross over, or reverse in the North Pole departure road, entry via the same crossover. (I see in the latest Modern Railways track watch section that has now been changed into a siding.)

I think they have the option of reversing in the northbound platform at Shepherds Bush, but this requires wrong road working back to Kenny O according to Quail, so I doubt that would be done in the peaks. Probably OK for weekend engineering closures though...
