Hopefully, 40145 will return to the Mainline in 2013, where would be appropriate for her to visit without being too strenuous?

Also, where would any of you like 40145 to visit, be it some old haunts to areas not previously visited by a 40 or not visited in many years?

I'd pay good money too see/hear and railtour a 40 on the GEML!

Personally, I would like 40145 to do a tour around the North West, maybe visiting Barrow, Blackpool North, Buxton, Southport & Windermere?

Llandudno or Holyhead would bring back memories for the older generation.
Or maybe a tour in the North East, given that D345 (as it was then) was allocated to Gateshead for many years.

AFAIK, 40145 hasn't visited Llandudno since she returned to the mainline in 2002.

If she's back longterm, I would love to have a 40 to Weymouth.

Also, recreate the Manchester Piccadilly to Skegness Summer Saturday train.

I'd love to see 40145 go from Edinburgh to Carstairs junction then WCML to Carlisle then via Settle to Leeds. Both Haymarket (Edin) and Carlisle Kingmoor had class 40 allocations in years gone by.:)

I know it's not the most delightful of places, how about Cleethorpes?

Has Southend been done with 40145?

Send it up the Long Drag to Carlisle with a Northern service chasing it! No where to loop it so it will have to go flat out!

Cleethorpes - Manchester Red Bank empties through the Hope Valley; memories!

Does anyone know if 40s are banned from the whole of the former Southern Region?

Would Network Rail permit the use of 40145 on the South Western Mainline either in whole or partially from Basingstoke & then The Mule to Exeter St David's?

Midland Main Line from London. Incredibly rare territory for 40s, might have to get creative with a start point though. Liverpool Street, South Tottenham curve and Upper Holloway to West Hampstead perhaps?

40145 is nearly ready for her long awaited return to the mainline.

Does anyone on here know if there are any tours in the pipeline?

Why Stoke-on-Trent to Norwich via Derby?

I would have started it at Crewe or Manchester Piccadilly.

I would rather keep her local for her first trip back on the Mainline

First choice would be Crewe to Holyhead, but make it different by routing it via Warrington Bank Quay, Manchester Victoria, Stockport & Altrincham.

Second choice would be Crewe to Northwest destinations e.g. Liverpool Lime Street, Southport, Buxton, Blackpool North, Barrow, with a DRS 37/4 for assistance.

Third choice would be Crewe to Carlisle, outward via Warrington Bank Quay, Manchester Victoria, Todmorden, Mirfield, Wakefield Kirkgate, Hellifield & S&C, return via Preston, Bolton, Manchester Victoria, Stockport, Wilmslow

If you want to go from Stoke to Norwich, I would start at Manchester Piccadilly, then via Stockport, Macclesfield, Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford, Bescot, Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Intl, Coventry, Rugby, Northampton, Milton Keynes Central, Watford Junction, Camden Road, Stratford, Ipswich, Norwich (Rev), Thetford, Ely Curve, Peterborough, Leicester, Nuneaton, Birmingham New Street & as outward

The CFPS AGM is next weekend - perhaps there'll be some info to members then. It would be a bit soon to start planning a tour when the loco's first proper run for over three years isn't until tomorrow.

I'm a member of the CFPS, but I won't be at the AGM, so will have to wait for the minutes.

Indeed.

As far as I am aware there will be some running in at the ELR before a full blown railtour is attempted. Best not to rush into things I would say.

I have heard about some possibilities of what could be done for a 'first tour' but no dates have been fixed and would imagine the AGM next Saturday would be a starting point for information?

Attended the CFPS AGM on Saturday, it's likely that 40145's comeback tour will be in April/May 2014.

Hopefully, 40145 will have it's Steam Heat Boiler re-instated for use on the East Lancashire Railway & Mainline running.
