Does anyone know if the programme to withdraw the 4 JOPS has been postponed or delayed as I thought they were being made into 5 car 458/1 or something.
Cheers

The first two units have been converted from exGatwick Express vehicles and are currently being tested at Wimbledon Park Depot. However everything has not gone according to plan and the project has slipped behind schedule, to my knowledge no 458/0s will be sent away for conversion until all of the rebuilt 460 (Gatwick Express) units have been completed.

They are not being withdrawn!

In its simplest terms-
As a 458/5 enters service a 450/5 will have its 1st class reinstated, this will then replace a 458/0 which will then be converted to a 458/5.

The idea is to have 2 of each train type out of service at the same time so there will be quite an overlap.

Soz am confused. I thought the 4 Jops were being withdrawn as are the 460 Gats and being made up to 5 car Jops with the Gats and the jops intermingling so I don't know what this has to do with the 450 4 Des 1st class being reinstated as I thought they had their 1sts removed or some units did to made them High Capacity for the Hounslow lines ..soz I am just an old Ex Guard redeployed to a ticket office in the middlle of nowhere so you don't have to be...lol

The Desiros that had their 1st class seating removed for the Windsor side suburban services will/are having them reinstated as those units will be used on the Reading services in the near future as the rebuilt/reformed 458/5s will take over their current duties.

Oh and don't worry about 455driver he just gets cranky because be doesn't get to work turns with the guards from the best depot. ;)

That's a trade secret, can't have that kind of information out in the open everyone would want to get a transfer to here. ;)

I think all the 450/5s have had First Class reinstated now. I haven't seen one without First Class for a while now. They are quite happily turning up across the network now as well.

Makes fist, straightens middle finger and moves hand upwards! <D
Best depot my arse!

Okay maybe I should have put "replaces the 450/5 on the Windsor line services" instead of "a 450/5 will have its 1st class reinstated".

The cascade of the 2 types of stock are dependant on each other.

I'm confused now, the best depot doesn't even operate JOPS, GATS, and we dont have 455's either. It isn't even on SWT but it's sister company ;)

It's not even a sister company is it? South West Trains is owned by Stagecoach. Southeastern is owned by Govia.

They are all owned by the Government who let out franchises to Stagecoach etc for them to run, at no time are they owned by them!

They [reverted 450/5s] were seen to be randomly allocated all over the place as soon as the first few were done, some months back.

This thread from July/August covered the subject: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=86760

Personally I doubt they'll ever be used on a specific route or services, the capacity difference between a '/5' and a normal 450 must be fairly trivial - would diagramming them specially ever be worth the effort?

The Class 450s are now a common fleet of 127 units for diagramming purposes, the 450/5s have slightly less capacity as the standard class seating is still in 'High Capacity' configuration which means seats nearest doors ahve been removed.
