Good Morning all,

Just been sent a picture of 397003 in Doncaster's West Yard with a barrier coach attached. I pressure this will get dragged back west or would it take the long way round? Also have we have any update when she's due to depart?

That looks like an 08 attached rather than a barrier wagon. Unsure when or how it’s returning to Longsight.

That's an 08. It was supposed to be sent back to Longsight via Edinburgh under its own power but storm Darragh happened the same weekend and the move was cancelled.

Longsight via Edinburgh?

I assume it'll be traveling back under it's own power and going via Edinburgh is the only way to do it all under the wires?

It's also possible to do the entire route with TPE drivers (I'm not sure about Doncaster to York but Lumo drivers definitely would, and they could be borrowed relatively easily) as well which would make the whole operation cheaper and much simpler.

You could technically send it via London under the wires the whole way, but that would cost an arm and a leg in route conducting.

Some TPE drivers do sign Doncaster to York (802s come off IEP depot and head to/from York).

I believe when 397003 came to Doncaster if was a move operated by ROG.

Based on post #8, ROG did the move to Doncaster (via Edinburgh), if it makes sense to send it that way, it probably makes sense for it to go back the same way.

Using a loco to pull it would mean needing paths and crew for it as well, not just the train.

Nothing to do with cost. It’s very difficult to get a path across the Pennines via any of Huddersfield, the Hope Valley or the Calder Valley. The Tyne Valley theoretically would be an option but by that point you may as well ditch the diesel loco and go via Edinburgh on its own power.

It's not being dragged. It went to Doncaster under its own power and it will be coming back under its own power just not with a TPE crew.

An 08 from Doncaster to Manchester via Edinburgh

Nothing to do with cost. It’s very difficult to get a path across the Pennines via any of Huddersfield, the Hope Valley or the Calder Valley. The Tyne Valley theoretically would be an option but by that point you may as well ditch the diesel loco and go via Edinburgh on its own power.

My first thought was actually via Derby and Crewe, which is not direct by any means, but its easier to path and a nice easy trundle.
