Bought a zones 1 - 6 travel card in London for use on services inside those zones.
Works perfectly fine on southeastern services I got from London bridge to Waterloo east
However after some DLR bashing j got off at Stratford international and with no restriction, I was able to make my way to board the southeastern 395 from Stratford to st pancras, a southeastern service inside London zones 1-6.
Travel card works perfectly fine on the EMT platforms at st pancras, but got a a slap on the wrist and was asked to pay more money because I got to the ticket barriers after travelling on a 395 in zones 1-6 which doesn't state not southeastern between st pancras and Stratford and should have otherwise got tube instead...

Any ideas why southeastern don't want people travelling on their trains on HS1 inside zones 1-6? Still recovering from paying off for the 395s?
To be fair it probably would have been quicker on the tube anyway.

The conditions do state that travelcards are not permitted on HS1.

Also, alternative tube transportation is certainly not as quick between the two but is included in the price of the Travelcard.

It’s about £3.60 or £5.60 in the peak (give or take) for an HS1 Trip on Oyster between the 2. Worth it if you need to be somewhere but if you have a little extra time and already have a Travelcard then worth going the longer routes of which there are several.

Can I use my Travelcard on National Rail services in London?

  • The Travelcards available on the TfL Visitor Shop are only valid to travel within zones 1-2 or zones 1-6, including most National Rail services within the zones you have purchased it for. These tickets are not valid to travel on:
    • Heathrow Connect services between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow
    • Heathrow Express services
    • Southeastern High Speed services between St Pancras International and Stratford International.

HS1 has never been within the travelcard zones. Special Oyster PAYG/Contactless fares are available between Stratford International and St Pancras.

During the 2012 Olympics ticket holders were given special One Day Travelcards that did include validity between St Pancras and Stratford International but this was strictly a one-off.

Since an HS Upgrade from Gravesend to St Pancras is £4.20, would that provide "coverage" for the Travelcard, or is it only valid with a Gravesend ticket?

FWIW, Off Peak, it's cheaper to buy a non-HS1 Travelcard from Gravesend and upgrade it than to buy an HS1 Travelcard.

How fast do the trains go between Stratford and St P? I see they do 6 miles in 7 minutes

The travelcard does not state it is not valid between Hayes and Heathrow either, yet they also fall inside Zones 1-6.

You can get on board a Heathrow Connect service without any restrictions, and are quite likely to get away without even realising you need to buy a separate ticket, yet it does not change the fact that you didn't have a valid ticket.

Blimey well I've been a naughty boy then LOL
- I think might have travelled on HEX before.
I purchased mine from Three bridges to zones 1-6 so as you can imagine, along with daily parking rate, it does work out to quite a bit and so I was disappointed when I had to pay more ;)
So it certainly does pay to 'check before you travel '

I know, it was a literal answer to the question asked. As to peak velocity, I've no idea.

The peak will be a lot more than the average.

HS1 linespeed between St Pancras and Stratford is 140mph I believe, plus the journey includes the relatively slow departure from St Pancras and the steep curve towards the tunnel portal which is negotiated at low speed.

Isn't the limit between St Pancras and Stratford 125mph anyway, only becoming 140mph between Stratford and Ebbsfleet?
