Thanks for any help :)

As far as I know they are both trailers and I have a feeling they may be both standard. If I get a moment I will have a dig around and see what I can find, unless someone beats me to it

The additional vehicles included in 390054-57 are a trailer standard and a motor standard. I assume that this will also be the case for the Pendolinos that are to be lengthened.

Thanks for this, I thought that but this was what I was looking for:

Thanks for this, can now work out the seating capacity for an 11 car set. If it was a TS which is the same as the TS in the current sets, that will give us 3 disabled standard class coaches, and only 2 out of 7 standard coaches with fulll seating capacity!

Thank the DDA for that..

Oh, and they won't be able to go past 11 car, overhearing some Altstom engineers the other week, "No ____ing chance of going past 11, the control systems are ____ing us about enough as it is with 11, too ___dy far apart from the cabs"

Edits for sensitive eyes...

should of just replaced the words with puppy (watched friends today :/)

Well that is a shame tbh i would of maybe said 12 could be an apsitation one day. Wonder what the problem is.

Although, does this mean were gonna have reliability issues when they are introduced?

The new TS has 74 seats and the new MS vehicle has 76 seats, according to Platform Five.

I wasn't aware of any major problems when 390001-034 had their additional trailer standard vehicle added to bring them up to nine car, and 390054 seems to have run a number of fault free trials, so hopefully there won't be any ill effects from adding the additional vehicles into existing Pendolinos. The eleven carriage formation must just be stretching the electronics to the limit. I wouldn't think that that would be too much of a problem, as surely there's only a limited number of platforms on the West Coast that could handle longer than eleven carriage Pendos.

Ah, so no more disabled coaches! Wonder why the TS is loosing 2 seats?

390 054 is tested with its 2 coaches isolated IIRC, they will still need to be commisioned like the rest of the sets :)

From what I could gather it's a problem with the multipule unit controls going out of syncronisation at long distances. Could be anything from the communication protocol used, down to the pysical lengths of the harnessing. But they have a solution for the 11 car units, but going beyond that would have been a problem.

The transformers couldnt cope with being longer either, only because they were overspecced in the first place that it was possible to just slide in the extra cars. Similar with the IEP, the 5 and 8 car sets can both be extended to a maximum of 12 car thanks in part to them speccing 9MW capacity (Pendos 8MW, Eurostar 12MW). On the plus side IEP will go like the clappers with an acceleration of 0.7m/s/s thanks to all that power, twice the acceleration of a 91DVT and even 3% more than a Voyager in both diesel and electric only configurations.
