Recently been mentioned to me by a friend planning an overnighter at Preston that there is a drag between Preston and Longsight. I've also seen this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oozQjQIY9is&t=289s at about 4:40 in there is a Pendo drag. Is this a regular working?

There are a couple of early/late 390 ECS workings Preston/Lancaster-Longsight, but they are normally electrically worked via Golborne.
However, they will be 57-hauled if there is any engineering work on that route.
There used to be one to/from Edge Hill (electrically worked via Crewe) but that seems not to run these days.
Class 57s will probably have a few runs now and again to maintain operational knowledge.

As far as I am aware this drag finished years ago - around 2014 I think. It used to deaprt Preston 23: xx. I don't think Virgin drivers even sign 57s now and they are used solely for thunderbird duties.

Edge Hill drag has finished. Even 5f09 no longer runs.

It'll be very rare that a drag runs now due to the procedure needed to staff the train.

I think it goes under its own power now and there is no 57 stabled at Preston now anyway.

That Pendolino still has stripey doors so must be a while back as aren't they all plain dark grey now? Would need to be desperate to drag anyway these days.

Yes, I think if you're wanting to catch a Pendolino drag these days you need to keep an eye out for the (very rare) occurrence one has a major failure and needs rescue.

This is the last one I can think of (although maybe others). Back in March - ironically the first 57 Thunderbird needed another 57 Thunderbird to rescue it when it too had issues. They also went on a very roundabout route via the Midlands to get from Macclesfield to Longsight, so on this occasion was good opportunity to see it.
