Hello,

I'm wanting to travel from Edinburgh - Glasgow on Saturday (18th Feb) and I'd like to travel on a 380. Do these trains run the route? I've never been on the route before so I'm just curious as to what train I'd be on.

Only the ones via Carstairs I believe, usually a North Berwick- Glasgow Central.

I don't think it will happen anytime soon, though I haven't heard of it anyway. They're all 334 operated.

It would depend on which route between Edinburgh and Glasgow you were using as to what rolling stock you could expect, although if you are looking specifically for 380s then the only two services operated by them are those two listed by CarterUSM via Carstairs.

The most popular and most frequent route between Edinburgh and Glasgow is via Falkirk, which is operated by 170s.

There is also now the newly opened route via Airdrie and Bathgate that is worked by 334s.

The Shotts line is operated by 156s (I think).

And the route via Carstairs, by far the longest of the four in terms of distance, is served primarily by a bi-hourly Crosscountry service formed largely of Voyagers. Although there is also an occasional East Coast service (One a day in each direction?) and the couple of 380 workings noted above.

Never heard of Airdrie to Bathgate becoming 380 operated. There was a rumour going about that Scotrail wanted to send some of the Class 380 to Bathgate LMD, to have toilets emptied and to be washed overnight. This would probably by ECS from Edinburgh tho, and only if Bathgate could hold them with the amount of Class 334 stabled there overnight.

No it wasn't. I never saw any reports that said that A-B would get new rolling stock - they all talked about using existing stock (320s get a mention in some earlier ones). The 380s were ordered specifically for Ayrshire, Inverclyde and GARL.

The stations between Airdrie and Bathgate would, as would everything west of Bathgate. East of Airdrie would probably cause problems. But then if the stock had been ordered for A-B, they would have ordered 3x20m units rather than a mix of 3x23m and 4x23m units...
