Looks like 7X80 is on for Friday 20/05/2011 and scot-rail site seems to confirm this. Wonder if it will make it to Polmadie on Saturday unlike the last pair (020 & 021) which spent the weekend at Carlisle yard (pushing their luck re vandalism ). It will probably be 380022 & 380114 - there is only 115 & 116 otherwise to choose from.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Rumored to be not happening - nothing came through yesterday. My guess is Monday but of course anything could happen (as usual) but I have no clues that it has run today.

If anyone's interested, the new 380 diagrams are now available on the Scot-rail.co.uk website; subject to some change due to the shortage of available stock. Good to see so many are going to be out and about, given the extent of the technical issues only a few months ago.

As of Monday 23/05/2011 11:30 looks like nothing doing regarding deliveries. My guess is it safer not to run 7X80 on the first few days of a new national timetable what with all the of the teething troubles to contend with. I have no info  - cannot even be sure it did not run last Friday ! or wont run up HS1 !!. There that should make something happen.

Travelled on one yesterday for the first time and again this morning on the Glasgow/Newton line which is odd but I wasn't complaining. A very nice commuting experience all in all with a nice open, airy interior and a lovely quiet ride. :)

Looks like 7X80 is on for Friday 03/06/2011 (Saturday in Scotland) and scot-rail site seems to confirm this. It will probably be 380022 & 380114 - there is only 115 & 116 otherwise to choose from. Bear in mind I got it wrong last time  but I have now gathered that two 380s have presented themselves at Frethun ready for the jouney through the channel tunnel so what could possibly go wrong (this time ).

Glasgow to Newton on a 380?
Yes, as this is one of the diagrams and routes passed for Class 380 units now
A swap in diagrams was recently made due to the length of time it takes to couple / uncouple units
This Class 380 unit is currently filling in for a Class 314, how ironic

Saw one on a Cathcart Circle service yesterday. Think it's on the 1450 Outer Circle from Cathcart which would make it diagram GW104.

Yes, really!!!! Firstly the delayed, combined (saying combined as the 16.45 remained at "delayed" on the board) 16.45/17.08 from Central at about 17.25 on 380003 and then the next morning on the 07.41 to Central, this time 380004

Now Mon-Tue 6-7/06/2011. As per scot-rail site and A.N.Other source. And its 380022 and 115. Wonder if there is something wrong with 114 then, its supposed to now be coming with 116 on 13-14th !.

Confirm that there was just one, and not the usual two

Every time I'm on a 380, it makes me think about just how commuters must've felt when BR started electrifying lines and withdrawing the steam locos in the late 50s.

As statement, rather than a question...
Yes, the Neilston services will eventually also be operated by the occasional Class 380, more likely will be off-peak
However I understand there are some issues which need to be resolved between Cathcart and Neilston before they can be used in passenger use

Like they were finally getting something modern.

Granted, but what about the romance of the steam locomotive? Although I'm not a particular steam buff, it's fair to say that there's something magical about them that no diesel or electric train has achieved since. We wouldn't be where we are today if we still had steam trains, but I'm sure many travellers at the time would have lamented the loss of the steam train.

I was on a 380 a few weeks ago, and I think they're really great trains from the passenger perspective. When you step on, they just feel overwhelmingly spacious compared to the previous Glasgow EMUs, and they're also very quiet from the inside (although you still hear the UFO sound!).

From my experiences when 377s were introduced, the initial feeling is one of novelty, then you forget about it. Pretty quickly. Then you start to wonder why the heck you put up with the old stock.

Then again, slammers were very old. And not really comparable to people's affection for steam, and the reluctance for diesel/electric many may have felt...

We wouldn't be where we are today if we still had steam trains, but I'm sure many travellers at the time would have lamented the loss of the steam train.

First off, I am a "steam buff". Very much so. I find more interest in the history of the railways than I do in the modern railways, so much that I would prefer seeing a Duchess tackling Beattock than I would a Pendolino. However, I don't look at the steam locos as "romantic" from the random Josephine's point of view, I look at them as "romantic" from the railway historians' point of view.

That said, I still appreciate the modern railways. As much as I adore steam and have no doubt they're probably more reliable than a lot of modern stock, the railways had to move forward. Yes, steam was rushed out in an untimely fashion. The standards should have lived out their lives and thus giving more of them a chance to enter preservation. However, that didn't happen and electrics and diesels took course.

Passenger numbers were very low in the years following nationalization. Road transportation had become a threat to the big four before WW2 and after, and BR ended up in the same boat. This is why the 1955 modernization plan was invented and steam was to be replaced despite the construction of almost 999 Standard steam locos still being underway. Unfortunately, the resulting DMUs and Rail-Buses made very little difference to many branch lines, hence the famous Beeching Report in the 1963. Many trains were carting about nothing more than fresh air and were costing BR money to run. This had to stop, so they were axed.

BR saw the steam locomotive as "old fashioned" and it had no place on the modern railway. They thought steam was just one reason why people were turning away from rail travel.

However, in Glasgow, electrification of what is today the North Clyde Line attracted a significant increase in rail travel in the city and her surrounding areas, thus the legendary "Blue Trains" were born. These new beats made the North Clyde a major commuter railway and many, many people used them. The first electrics in Scotland were an outstanding success. This set the path for other lines to be electrified.

Yes, the steam loco was rushed out when it should've been replaced gradually, but the point is that the people were attracted to the new, modern trains in Glasgow. That's not to say the same may happen thanks to the 380, but it does show that many people were intrigued by the Scots Electrics, and out of this modernization we got such things as the 303, 156, 158 and 318 which paved the way for the 320, 334 and eventually, very far down the line, the 380, which is one unit I very much enjoy traveling on.

Seems to have been a few hickups in the last few days
Thankfully ScotRail have seen sense and keep a "spare" unit in Glasgow Central now, just in case

I am rather surprised that 380112 has not yet had a passenger service run, presumbly this unit along with the other two that are now approved for use (380015 and 380016) will make an appearance this week
This would then give 28 units and then meets the PVR to commence Class 380 units on the North Berwick, without even having to swap diagrams
Presumably this is what was being aimed for

The first 380 on the North Berwick Line is expected to be this Saturday (11th June 2011) according to Scot-rail.co.uk. Based on the messages, it should be running diagram GW421 on Saturday, and diagram GW422 on the Sunday. No unit number mentioned yet, and of course this is all subject to change.

cough, going to need another EMU to operate on Friday as well, not enough Class 322 units to cover all the diagrams

Are the two 322s going off to Kilmarnock as planned, then?
