I wouldn't call them tables on 318's, they look more like shelves to me! You are right though, seems a little pointless.

I personally think tables on commuter routes are a waste of time

Why? Say folks are traveling first thing in the morning, surely they'd prefer a table if they have a cup of coffee to kickstart the day, or something. Quite often I've heard folk moan about the lack of tables on a 334 and have heard a relief when they board a 318 to see tables. I personally prefer tables as I like to have a nice cup of coffee or tea or whatever when I'm traveling by train even if it's just a wee half hour from work to town (in fact, especially from work where a coffee and a 156 is a perfect match!).

The tables come in handy for folk, commuters or otherwise.

The only time they should be installed is if the train is going to be used on a route where catering is likely

So have you just forgotten that folk take their own refreshments with them as well?

I laughed when they put them into the Class 318 units, they just looked daft

I actually quite like them, and would like to see them installed on 334s. Not too big to be in the way (as they would be), just enough to be able to pop something down on it if you need to (eg, a cup of tea). It's quite handy.

I disagree totally! People do need somewhere to put food and drink that they've bought for eating!

You've echoed my thoughts precisely!

Traveling on the train with young kids a table is a must for juice etc. Saves it getting on the seats.

They are also useful for going on holiday. A few friends and I travelled from Leeds down to Tenby and back at the end of August/ beginning of September and the tables were a God send as you could do thing such as play cards which helped us through the hellish 6+ hour journey

Considering the first class 380 entered service around late November/early December I thought it would be appropiate to say that although some sites say the class 318 emus were cascaded onto the Argyle Line from May 2001, I remember seeing a class 318 on the Argyle Line in July 2000 when my aunt and I got the train into Glasgow and I think it was the 1046 from Motherwell (1022 from Lanark) to Dalmuir via Bellshill. Does anyone else recall seeing class 318 units on Argyle Line duties in 2000/2001 or is it just me?

Well I got my first shot on a 380 the week before Christmas. Seemed very good. I persoanlly like the wee tables, very handy indeed.

As for 318's on the Argyll line, yep I remember them also

In other words you remember them on the Argyle Line in 2000/2001? So do you have any idea then why some poeple and websites say May 2001 when I remember them in July 2000?

I would hazard a guess at it being a staggered introduction, though I have no idea to be honest!

Ok! The service I remember it operating the 1046 Motherwell(1022 ex Lanark) to Dalmuir via Bellshill and Yoker!

Class 318 units occasionally appeared from about when the Class 314s were transferred from Argyle Line to Cathcart and Inverclyde services

What do you mean by staggered introduction?

In other words from July 2000 onwards? Also do you know when class 318 units appeared on North Clyde services because I saw a picture on another website dated January 2002 of a class 318 unit at Partick heading for Bellgrove and was wondering when the class 318's started appearing !

He means they were gradually moved from one line to the other, rather than all at once. I would assume that the date listed would be the date when the last unit was cascaded.

Well can you tell me if the picture I saw on another website of a class 318 unit at Partick heading for Bellgrove via Glasgow Queen Street and dated January 2002 was the first instance of a class 318 on North Clyde duties or did they start these duties in late 2001?

I asked Scotrail regarding the roll out of the 380's and they said they are still waiting on some "modifications" from the manufacturer

Fresh technical problems to a fleet of new ScotRail trains have
delayed the introduction of some rail services by at least six months.
Only 10 of the 38 Class 380 electric trains due for use on routes
connecting Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Renfrewshire to Glasgow have so
far entered service, with ScotRail refusing to accept any more until
the problems are sorted out.
The delay has had a knock-on effect on services which were due to
operate between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh every 15 minutes from
last month after a £300million project to complete the section of
track between Airdrie and Bathgate.
ScotRail has already put in place an introductory timetable, as it is
reliant on using the trains due to be freed up when the 380s are
introduced, and has now confirmed that the 15-minute service has been
put off until at least May.
The operator was supposed to have taken delivery of 24 of the trains
by now from German manufacturer Siemens, paid for with £200m of
Scottish Government funding, but has complained that a series of
technical problems have dogged their performance.

This week, 8 units are diagrammed out of 10, and all 10 were available for service today.

Whatever the Class 380 technical problems are, let's hope they're sorted soon so that the Airdree - Bathgate route can get its 15 minute interval service soon. I hear that it should be upped from hourly to a 30 minute service very soon....

No idea, that was before my time. (Only really been interested since 2007)

Sadly things seem to be going from bad to worse
I have made a further enquiry to Transport Scotland so should receive a response later this week
Modifications are being made to the undelivered units, and no more will be delivered until these are all completed
I had been advised this would add eight weeks, but was to be confirmed, before the next unit was delivered

The priority is to accept five units for the North Berwick service
I think that shows how far behind things are now
Obviously if units can be accepted then the cascade will progress, but even with the 12 units I was advised this would not be until at least the end of February 2011

Hmmm!! That does put back the Class 334 cascade!! I wonder if its political pressure (more votes on this route??!!) or a requirment to get the Class 322's off lease?

They'd need units for this service to be the 4-car versions...

The 322s were meant to go off-lease in December, so I think you can count on it being that

The lease for the Class 322 units ends in March 2011, and there is no possibility for an extension
ScotRail have already entered into discussions in the event five 4 car Class 380 units are not ready (as in accepted by themselves)

The North Berwicks do need to be a priority, because I have this horrible feeling that NXEA aren't going to be entirely sympathetic if we beg to keep their trains for a few more months.

The only priority with Airdrie-Bathgate should be a 30 minute frequency IMO, which would make the line usable. In reality, the biggest priority would be making sure that we have enough stock to cover the services that we're already short-forming!

This is a shambles.

8 units diagrammed out? Is that in passenger service? And if so, where? And did it actually happen? The only info I've got from Scot-rail.co.uk so far implies that it's the same as last week so far, but I did overhear some staff talking about things getting better this week (or something else similarly vague).

Are the 322s defiantly going to NXEA then?
