The question is relevant to the topic considering class 334 units will be cascaded from the Ayrshire Coast,Inverclyde and Argyle Lines to the Airdrie to Bathgate route to make way for class 380 units. So there!!!!!

I suggested earlier to start a new thread, one was created, and now there is an echo asking the same question!
The best thing would be wait until the week commencing 06 December
If at least two of the 3 car Class 380 units have not accrued enough trouble free miles then there is a serious issue, but this is now seen as a priority as there are enough 4 car units to implement the beginning of the cascade
However one is already doing this and the other should be in use from this weekend

It's been noted on scot-rail that they are to enter service from Saturday 27th. All subject to last minute changes of course, but the 27th has been the planned date for several weeks now.

A little birdie tells me 06:30 GLC-AYR on Saturday, but I don't trust said birdie enough to get out of bed that early in the morning

Monday is a different story
"Officially" the Class 380 units fully enter passenger service on Sunday 12 December
As previous it had been hoped to get at least four units into passenger service by September so that the cascade program could commence
The final hurdle is the lack of mileage on two of the 3 car units, in order to commence the weekday Ayr services with 7 car units, with one run cancelled already this week
Wait, what? Scot-Rail clams it's out and about in the morning from Central to Ayr and back, then off to Shields. If it's out around midday as you seem to be suggesting, I may just be taking a wee trip to the coast.

Well, I don't know if it was maybe a spare, but going along M8 this afternoon towards Livingston, I was racing a 334 until it stopped at Uphall, it looked like it had passengers, does that mean that they have had a 380 out to replace it on the other line?
The 334 was on driver training between Edinburgh and Bathgate. ScotRail have been short forming services in the west to release units for A-B driver training.
The first 380 in public service will be on Saturday.

Have a search on the Scot-rail.co.uk website. The post explicitly asks for the details not to be distributed elsewhere yet, so I'm not going to post the diagrams. But they are on the gen list, and there are also weekday diagrams on the Scot-rail.co.uk wiki.

That clears it up then, thanks Ewan, I only thought they were doing the driver training on weekends or that was what a supposed friend in the know told me. It just looked like there were about 5 passengers in the middle carriage, was expecting it to go past Uphall but it seemed to slow down and stop.
