Shame we don't get to see any luggage racks though... could be interesting. What's happening to the displaced stock?

EDIT - You can see a table at the bay of four to the left (narrow strip along the bottom) - they are also on all seatbacks...

There are luggage racks too, but I didn't photo any of them as I didn't really think luggage racks are really that exciting - along with the toilets!

Displaced stock is being used to strengthen other West Anglia services.

Nah, just wondering about luggage racks - like on the 185s, there's not many of them in the end coaches, despite 95% of journeys serving an international airport!

The 185s are at least used by a lot of other journeys (Manchester to Sheffield, Leeds to Newcastle, Liverpool to York etc), whereas the Stansted Express is going to be primarily used by Airport passengers, so there's less excuse for not having plenty luggage space on them.

Big difference between being sood up for 20 minutes every morning and standing in a sea of luggage because there are no racks!!!

Tpe are awful for luggage racks, in summer there were suitcases everywhere (i travvelled south pennine and nw services not north pennie)

Gatwick Express exists for people travelling to/from Gatwick Airport

Heathrow Express exists for people travelling to/from Heathrow

Heathrow Express exists primarily for people travelling to/from Heathrow

Stansted Express exists primarily for people travelling to/from Stansted

Transpennine Express provide hundreds of journeys (Manchester to Edinburgh, York to Leeds, Sheffield to Doncaster, Middlesbrough to Yarm etc), and travel to Manchester Airport is well under half the journeys (probably under a quarter). Not even all journeys serve Manchester Airport. By the same logic you'd want more luggage for all Pendolinos because some of them serve Birmingham Airport.

There not as bad as tilting Voyagers/pendolinos where the overhead racks are shaped in such a way they are unfunctional. A shame the class 220 couldn't have been designed differently given that class can not tilt!

I take it this is National Express upholstery design? I like the smart look of the interior. The seat back tables look nice and big whilst the seat hand grabs are more easily accessible. The livery is good too given the forthcoming change of franchise- nice neutral colours which manage to look smart. Good effort!

Can I confirm the Stanstead Express 'colour' is no longer orange? 'one' followed WAGN in insisting orange remained the primary colour.

A number of journeys, yes, but well under half (as I've said, not even all TPE services serve the Airport).

Northern run units to the Airport too, but without massive luggage racks.

Its all about the balance between Airport passengers (who want a seat's worth of luggage space each) and "normal" passengers. On the 379s you are going to have the vast majority of passengers using the Airport (there will be some people going from Bishops Stortford/ Harlow Town etc to London), so need a bigger luggage space

Looks higher density seating (less tables) than the 317/7 sub fleet, though the 317/8 (other Stan Ex variant) has 3+2, bays without tables, in standard.

At first glance, I'd say they do look like they need more luggage space- not everyone flying out of Stansted is using Ryanair.

It's the same as 317s have been turned out in lately- and as c2c. With the franchise ending in a couple of years, it's basically a base colour rather than a livery. Nat Ex have given up on the dot-to-dot branding- think they started giving up when they handed in the keys for East Coast?
