Hey i'm a little confused as to the progress in construction. 378/0 and /1 completed?
what is news on /2 and extra carriges for /0 ?

any help appreciated

also the stock they replaced 313's and 508's? will they be used anywhere else or are they basically finished off now?

Some 313s have gone to Southern, apparently some are also going to FCC too.

All the 378/1s have definitely been reported in service.

At least eight of the units built as 378/2s from new are complete, 378225-231 have all been reported in traffic, on either the ELL or DC lines, and 232 is reported to have reached Chart Leacon for testing.

A couple of the /0 units have had their fourth cars fitted and have re-entered traffic, 378208 and 210, previously 008/010.

There may be more /0 > /2 completed, that info is a week or so old...

I think LO are down to a very few 313s - less than half a dozen I expect, and the 508s are long gone - over a year IIRC.

LO only have 2x 313s left 313121 & 313123

122 & 134 are with FCC at Hornsey

The other 19 are all with now Southern, with a handful in service
Some are being painted at Wolverton
Some are being refurbished at Doncaster

378 001 and 002 never ran in public service as such; they were delivered ( or will be delivered ) as 378 201 and 202.

Don't think 378002 ever left Derby although it was definitely formed and numbered as 378002 as there was various sightings of it at the Works.

They've just re-appeared on the NLL on a couple of occasions. As more four car 378/2s are delivered, it'll be the reducing number of three car trains that becomes critical - so perhaps there was a glitch in 378/0 availability on a couple of days?

They must very soon get to the stage where they cannot accept any more four car conversions until all the platform lengthening is signed off, to allow four car NLL operation. It should be within a month or two I reckon.

Almost certainly. I'd expect the only 378s yet to be physically completed are units 55, 56 and 57. These 3 weren't ordered until about July 2009 IIRC.

Not sure how it affects 172 and 379, as they have various production lines at Derby. There are massive numbers of LU trains being built as well don't forget, the 378 production line may have been earmarked for them...

All 3 508/3s are stored at Eastleigh works at the moment. 2 of them were moved to Warrington Arpley to apparently try and persuade Merseyrail they wanted them but in the end they were taken back to Eastleigh!

I travelled to Euston today from Rugby and a 313 passed me on the Dc lines so assume a 378 had a problem.

313123 was working on the DC circuit today, managed to have a ride on it from Euston - Willesden on the 09:57 departure.

378s also working were 208, 210, 226, 227 & 229. 228, 230 & 231 were all on Willesden along with 313121.

I understand 313121 is off to Southern while 313123 will be the third example FCC receive.

Nothing is clear with the 508s yet, although the official line from Merseyrail in correspondence I've had with them is they are still "looking into" acquiring them. I'll say simply this - they are badly needed to ease overcrowding on the Southport and Ormskirk lines on Merseyside. Obviously a major refurbishment would be needed, including removal of passenger door controls. There are also 10 508/2s stored at Telford and 2 at Gillingham, all looking for a new (or should that be old?) home.
