[Class377/5]

For anyone whose interested, 377207 was moved from Selhurst depot to Bedford Cauldwell depot yesterday (29/11/11) as 5Z51 to work for FCC. The unit had been reliveried into FCC colours before the move.

Another two 377/2 will be joining FCC early next month.

Indeed, our cleaning teams really do a fantastic job when the units go in for clean, hardworking bunch and deserve a lot more credit than they get - unfortunately that correction is so true, the state a unit can be found in when it is out in service is pretty bad between cleans, simply because so many people these days lack the proper respect to put things in the provided bins, or just not make such a mess in the first place!!!

This surprised quite a few people but does make sense. The 3 units will be on extremely low mileage and will have maintenance done at weekends at Selhurst.

Sounds to me like the fact that the original estimate was for FCC to have these units for around 12 months. Now it looks like FCC are going to have the units for about 4.5 years means they are getting FCC colours. Note as well the change over from Southern standards to FCC takes around a day. If the units did swap about this would take up the weekend. Sounds like the units will be kept for the loan unless there is an unit fault.

The diagram comes off Selhurst on Monday morning.

Not yet. Have an idea which units but nothing confirmed.

They will be hardly used so they should be fine. The 377/5 have done well now they've bedded down.

The SN franchise spec only allowed for 3, as a 12 car set. Did you hear this somewhere reliable?

I heard there will be 4 in total, i.e., another 3 as well as 207. I don't know unit numbers though. Cross your fingers you don't get 206.

Yes, I sign 377's, on the whole not bad units when they are behaving, but at the moment not had a great deal of 377 work to get used to them completely, but they are very comfortable to sit in I shall say that! Know we were trained on the differences between /2 and /5, just a couple of labelling and switching differences really, can't help but wonder whether there will be a difference in the 'feel' of the units between the earlier and later builds though!

As a regular user, I like the 377/5s especially the de-classified first class section at one end. The seating materials appear to be a little on the flimsy side and some of the interconnecting doors between carriages are often stuck closed.

Has anyone who drives these for FCC reported internal doors being stuck?

Slightly O/T, how do the Southern 377s ride? I must say that over the bogies the ride can be a little bit lively for us passengers, especially over complicated trackwork.

We are stretched as it is with 442's being allocated to more Brighton express workings now to include LBG with is what their built for but at the same time worrys us as FCC don't care for the 319 units and FCC Branded 377 units tend to now be cared for at the SE Hitachi and Carriage service roads at Ashford INT. Good news is you might see more 460 units other than 02 and 05 on the GE route for which they belong to as 442 relief workings

Can be very bouncy and it can sound like the train has hit something when it hasn't!! At times the ride is very good

6x377's stable in SE territory overnight and at weekends, mon-fri 3 northbound am workings ans 3 southbound pm workings. Alot of 319's stable down there as well inc Orpington, vic& Bellingham.

Actually e SE Hitachi doesn't touch th 377/5's. They just stable there. If they are seen too while on SET time they go to Chart Leacon. In fact other than a brief clean of news papers they are just dumped while there.

No offence but if Southern is stretched its there doing. The deal to lend FCC th 377/2's is older than the Southern franchise.

Got passed by 02 tonight working from Victoria - although the total lack of passengers on board suggest it may have been an empty stock working.

Finally got on an FCC 377 yesterday as well - quite a surprise as it was on a Redhill working and I have never got one direct form City Tlk before - seems it is regular on the evening service. Does seem different to a Southern 377 but not a lot, just the seats seem harder and the sound proofing better.

Would like to see these back at Southern though but interested how the new timetable is going to work with the extra 377's in London running East Grinstead services.

There a few booked services using the 377/5 on purely Southeastern routes. There are as follows

5K54 1842 Rochester - Victoria*
2K86 1939 Rochester - Victoria
2N74 2037 Victoria - Ashford*

*same units

As for the Redhill 377/5, that will be 2W55 1610 Bedford - Brighton service. Note that under the new timetable this service goes back to being 319. All Redhill trains will be 319's in just over a weeks time.
