Hi there,
I read the thread about the 313 stranded between Falmer and Lewes with interest. A similar thing happened to 377113 on Monday morning, 21st Jan.
I was aboard the 0350 Southern service Brighton to Victoria, (2A11 ?) which at the outset was delayed departure until 0415, however then the guard announced that they had to wait for a de-icing train to make sure the train actually got to Victoria (I was going to Gatwick). The de-icing train arrived, all I could see of it from where I was sitting was GB Railfreight liveried 73206 "Lisa" and we eventually departed at 0452.
We were going at a steady speed once we reached Preston Park but soon after Patcham tunnel the lights started flickering and there was much arcing until the train came to a stand and most of the lights kept failing, the train tried to move a few times but no go. There were no on board announcements made , does the PA system work on battery power which I assume what we were on part of the time or did nobody know what was going on?
About 40 minutes later the driver announced we would try to return to Preston Park which we did, stopped at Preston Park. Doors locked shut for a good twenty minutes and all of a sudden moved again which the guard seemed surprised about as he called the driver to see what was going on but no further public announcements were made.
Back at Brighton we were told that buses would be provided but would take 45 minutes to organise, I decided to take a taxi which I did with two other passengers but due to all the delays I missed my flight (:
I cannot understand why the service wasn't cancelled at the outset and road transport arranged and why the train crew did not seem to know what was going on.
Also the de-icing train couldn't have been far ahead, what happened?
Regards,
Wayne
