Anyone able to check out the First Class question, ie is it provided wrt weekend running to Brighton?

Considering their day job is suburban work I sincerely hope they don't use up space with 1st Class that'll be declassified most of the time!

Oh I know that, but a few people have been insisting that they'll ALSO be used on Brighton services at weekends; that's all I'm asking about...

The photos linked bellow show no first class area and say there is none however it looks as if there are the partitions should a first class area be needed in future

You are correct, I miss read the diagram.
They don't have first class however the doors have been provided so first class can be implement later on.
The 377/6 won't be out to Brighton at weekends just yet but they will be diagramed to do so from December. However they may appear before then.

They could pair a 377/6 with any other 377 sub-class and provide First Class that way. Although if it's a 377/6 and a single 377/3, First could be busier than Standard!

They wont be attaching them to non 377/6s unless it's an emergency I expect. It hasn't exactly gone well when they've been doing it in the yard!

Managed to make the 0632 service this morning from NWD > LBG, was lead by 377605.
As mentioned before, it is very bright and airy inside. The automatic announcements are notably patchy at the moment, not every word was at the same volume. Door release sounds are different from other Electrostars (and 357s) south of the river - not sure about 379s).
Took some pictures, note that they are slightly tinted yellow - the interior is whiter.

Got a trip on a pair of 3776s this evening Thurs 26/09/2013.
London Bridge 18:06 to West Croydon comprised 377604 rear and 377605 front.
My observations of formation.

70105 Declassified ?
All five coaches had 2+2 seating throughout. Iirc there was one table each side of the coach in each section (coach end, coach middle, coach end). Plus one single seat each side of the coach
with its back to the outside in the section between the two outside doors but just next to
one of the outside doors - like all/some 319s have. Apart from the single seats there were
effectively two rows of seats per window with one row behind the cab (small window ?). So all seats could be arranged around tables lined up with windows with only the loss of two single seats in the whole coach !. Of course there would be an airline row behind the cabs.
The external doors are spaced in the normal "1/3 and 2/3" positions along each coach. I actually think they are nearer to 1/4 and 3/4 along each coach in most such units including these.
Exceptions were :-
70305 - Disabled loo on RHS at one end of coach (next to 70405), wheelchair space just inward of
the doors (so nearer the middle of the coach than I think is usual).
70205 - Had a normal loo on the RHS next to coach 70105.
70105 - Had a partition with permanently open doors. This was not located next to the outer
door area. It was, instead, one window into the centre section away from 70205. This meant that the space used up by the single seat each side found in other coaches was replaced by the
partition+doors+emptiness. I interpret this as meaning there was the possibility of having
first class stretching from the cab inwards by three windows from the nearest external doors
(total 4 1/2 windows so 9 rows of 2+2) OR One window to the second set of external doors
onwards to the coach end (total 3 windows so 6 rows of 2+2). There were four tables (eight rows) each side of the partition. Effectively an extra table in the centre section of this coach on each side. But no other indication of potential class
division.
The seats look to be thinner and felt firmer and more upright. I have back trouble and long
legs. So the seat arrangement seems to give more legroom than in earlier 377s. I neglected
to try the airline seats to confirm the legroom but I cannot see how it would be less than older 377s. Glad to see they have not bothered with the hopeless 3+2 seating layout though.
The ambience was slightly lighter than older 377s. I have travelled on 379s a while ago and
these also seemed lighter but somehow the 377/6 seems better (to my vague memory).

No idea on wifi - I saw no signs to that effect but actually noticed a lack of signs/clutter. That was while I was looking for clues as to the class of seating around the partition.
A few passengers did ask "is this first class" as they passed either way through the partition. A partition coupled with 2+2 seating is what I usually notice on other units. But no signs confirming class either way (not First, Second or Standard etc etc). In an older 377 the only extra clues are the headrest covers and the signs. The seating is otherwise identical. Quite a few people get caught out by this and many regulars will remind people who head for the only space available.
Saying the above makes me think I did not check for armrests. There were folding armrests where I was but no idea about the rest of the coaches.

The layout sounds very similar to the GA/StanEx 379s, just with an extra carriage inserted between the disabled loo carriage and the driving end, and 2+2 instead of 2+1 in the "first class" section- having the doors there means it'll be easier to designate it as 1st in future.

I'd hope it is at least wired for WiFi and might only need the hardware added if not already done. You don't want to go removing panels on one of these trains for no good reason (if the Victoria line trains are anything to go by)!

I was in the car with the Disabled loo, there were armrests there, I assumed that as all the cars had the same seat types, all would have them.
As for wifi, I doubt they have it. A small amount of 377 have/had wifi but I haven't seen those units for ages.

I have heard there is one going around with it still switched on - I think you can get a "lease" on the network and so on (i.e. it will look like your gadget is connected to the interwebs, to the untrained eye), but you can't actually browse the web or use other useful protocols...
I saw a 377/6 at norwood junction recently, but the only thing I find that's different is that it has 5 cars instead of more. I'd have thought of just making more of the other 377's.
However, when you said about the south London services, do you mean like the local ones?
Also it was a good idea, because that will mean every 3rd rail-based train operating company will have some sort of 5 car EMU!

There are a number of South London routes having their platforms extended from eight cars to ten cars. Rather than running three units together (4car+3car+3car) it makes sense to have less cabs and so use two five car units. It would not be happening of course if there was not a need for the three and four car units on other routes. Back in the 1950s/60s (iirc ?) the South Eastern (North Kent lines) were extended and run with a 4EPB+4EPB+2EPB - those got replaced in many cases by the very basic five car 376s.
I noticed 377604 and 377605 running on the usual evening services last night (Wed 2nd Oct). Does anyone know if any other units have made it into passenger service ?.
Formations :-
I noticed the dividing doors for the potential first class were at the London end yesterday so presumably there is some part of that diagram that effectively turns them round.
I was also puzzled as in the picture in post 226 the luggage racks appear to have a lit/clear/bright underside whereas I recalled they were metal with drilled holes in. I checked yesterday and the underside of the luggage racks does not look the same as in the photo !!!.

That picture is taken in the area under the pantograph well, I reckon, where there are no racks. The luggage racks in the distance are what you normally find throughout the rest of the unit.
