I know what you mean, but its all happened before with new designs.

There are bound to be problems as its a newish design (its based on a 379 rather than the older 377s). It is made to look (and feel ?) like a 377 - but the 377/6, /7 and /8s are not really a 377 as I understand it. The newer software required then has to talk to the older software on the older 377s. Probably not been tried until the new units arrived on Southern.

I get the impression that there are a lot of differences from the earlier 377s (subclasses 1-5). So it might make more sense if these new units were not classified as 377s - why were they ?.

I am still hoping to see them turn up at West Croydon. There are two terminators direct from London Bridge at about 17:35 and 18:37. Think its the same diagram.

This diagram didn't make it out of Selhurst depot the last two afternoons thanks to reaction to the fatality at Denmark Hill on Wednesday and the problems at London Bridge last night.

There has not been any report of the 377/6s working in the morning. Presumably this diagram has been 377/1(or 4)+2x377/3 as booked?

They ran out of numbers in the 37X range

Didn't they do some testing with 377311?

Yes, as talked about a few pages aboard this thread earlier.

I don't think the 372 number has been used yet

Yes. 371 was the proposed Thameslink Networker but could be used. Also 370 could be used as I don't think we'll be seeing any of our remaining APT carriages on the rails for a long time. With some further reshuffling one could free up even more assignments!

Didnt they do some testing with 377311?

There was a new software upgrade for the existing fleet that 377311 was the first to get, after some initial issues they got it working fine as 377604 was commissioned attached to 377311.

The reason for numbering in the 377xxx range is they are designed to be fully compatible with the 3771xx-5xx fleets.

There was a fault on the units in the depot on Wednesday, don't believe they were booked out yesterday however they were cancelled at last minute today with another fault.

The 10 car working the 377/6 will be put on first has been covered by a 377/2 and two 377/3 a fair bit lately.

Rtt shows that last night there was a train booked to run from derby to selhurst. Any ideas?

That's not the delivery path of the 377/6 but the 377/5 (5X77) that's been extended in the system. The 377/6 are all delivered to Stewarts Lane (7Z70) not Selhurst. However 377607 was dragged down in the 5X77 path with a 57 when the 66 failed on the 7Z70 path a few days earlier.

Interestingly whilst it's based on a 379 it sounds the same as a class 375/377 and not like the newer 376/377/379. This would make sense as the motors seem to be rated at 250 kW each rather than the 200 kW fitted to 376/378/379.

The 377/6 testing is taking place on the Southeastern network from Stewarts Lane to Ashford, Dover, Maidstone East, Grove Park, Lewisham & Victoria.

Old Dalby is used for testing new LUL S Stocks.

Went past Stewarts Lane yesterday on the South London Line, and along with the VSOE rake and a 67, there was a 377/6 in the shed. 604 perhaps?

Seems according to posts on other forums that 377604 seems to be the unit playing up recently

Where does it say that? The posts only state 604/605 not a specific unit.

377604-607/609 are all at Stewarts Lane currently with none at Selhurst any more.

I might have misread the post but I am sure it mentioned something about one of the units going bang

Damn, can't tell which pair I saw, whichever ones were at the shed entrance end was the ones, I wanted to start ticking them off for sight already

There five units now at Stewarts Lane so pairs can be formed of any of the units.

EDIT

377604/605 are back at Selhurst.

377613 is booked on tonight's drag with another 377/6 drag booked for Thursday.

UPDATE

377604/605 made their passenger début this morning. Running a bit late but carrying passengers.

604/605 were working a London Bridge service this morning. Arrived into PL12.

Personal opinion is they look a bit "flimsy" compared with the older 377 builds. The windows & LED display don't look that nice! Seems to be lots of space internally (ie to stand on Metro services) with the seat layout.

But that's my view. I'm sure others will love the new units.

What runs are they doing at the moment?

They've run on the following diagram today

5G04 06+23 Selhurst Depot - Norwood Junction
2G04 06:32 Norwood Junction - London Bridge
3J03 07+34 London Bridge - Selhurst Depot
5G16 07+55 Selhurst Depot - Norwood Junction

2G16 08:92 Norwood Junction - London Bridge
5J67 08+36 London Bridge - Selhurst Depot

Berth

5U55 16+30 Selhurst Depot - London Bridge
2U55 17:05 London Bridge - West Croydon
1G54 17:42 West Croydon - London Bridge
2U61 18:06 London Bridge - West Croydon

5U61 18+42 West Croydon - Selhurst Depot

This is what the 377/6 are currently expected to run for now. May or may not do the same in the future but I hope they do so I get to try them out!

Just thinking, will they be used on the East Grinstead line as the services for that route are currently 10-car (2x377/3+1x377/4)

No plans to. They will however reach Brighton. Of course engineering work may change this.

Hopefully it'll be doing that service on Thursday! Got an early shift that day :3

I'm hoping to catch them on Thursday evening myself. After a day of successful runs I'd be surprised if they aren't out regularly.
