377/6 coupled to 'older' 377 units?

Has anyone seen this before?
The closest i've seen is a 377/3 connected to a 377/2 (7 car unit)

377/6s and 377/7s can now couple to other 377s. (Not sure about /1s yet, have they had the software upgrade?) It's not booked to happen but it does happen fairly often. Usually as a 9-car 377 vice 10-car.

Software on the older units has now been modified so they can work with all of Southern's 377's. Note that the Southern fleet cannot run in multiple in service with the Thameslink units (207-212/214 & 501-523) but they can rescue each other as Thameslink units have different software.

Aye, the Thameslink software seems to be better... especially when it comes down to PIS (on the 2 series)

Do we know WHY southern and Thameslink 377s software isnt compatable? I know the southern units are different by having 377/6 DOO and SDO software to prevent wrong side door release and doors opening when stop shorts occur. Is this why they are not compatable with Thameslinks??

Basically yes. The two versions aren't tested together so no safety case for them to work in multiple. Change from one software to another takes a few hours plus testing.

Also note the Thameslink units have info for Southeastern routes too like Ashford and Gillingham all the way to the core.

a fleet of units of the same class that are unable to bang up to sub classes of each other.....I would have the thought SDO feature would be keycode that the driver inputs when he takes the unit on for a job....and the software updates automatically done during cyclic exams...
