With the news that very much required 37608 had dropped on the Spitfire Tour, there was nothing else to do but launch off to Sheffield to have a trip behind the beast. My thoughts turned to how I'd manage to fot the tour, and given there would be no time to mess about with tripods, I'd probably have to fot it arriving. Moving trains at night is not something I've tried before, but I put in the fixed 50mm lens in my bag to experiment anyway.
A quick trip up the Red Lion for a most welcome pint of Deuchars, and then back to the station to await the tour's arrival. I set myself up on Manual mode with ISO2500, 1/160 second shutter speed and an aperture of f1.8 and hoped for the best. OK, with such a high ISO, a noisy image was always going to be the result, but running it through Neat Image to reduce the noise has improved the picture no end, and as a record shot, I'm pretty pleased with it. http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63813226.html
Back at New Street, there was no time to arse about with a tripod so it was handheld again, using a station sign for stability. Alas, the 50mm lens is no use here, so back to the 18-135 with ISO1000 1/3 second f4.5. Here's the result - http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63813066.html
Really wish the vegetables wouldn't go and stand right next to the loco at stations - I've cloned out one baldheaded gent who was stood right in the wrong place:roll:
Definitely going to try some more moving trains at night - ok, you need slow moving trains but I'm certainly impressed with what the EOS7D can do!
