Hi all,
I've just read about 34067 Tangmere working a steam tour on April 2, 2011 on uksteam.info who apparently have the timings for the railtour.

Towards the end of its outward journey, uksteam times says that the tour will travel through Earlestown, Warrington, Runcorn East and Helsby. The railtour website 'The Railway Touring Company' says that the train will travel through Delamere.

As I'm not familiar with the infrastructure around the area, is it actually possible for the train to go via Helsby and Delamere before reaching Chester? I've had a look at Google Maps and can see no way that this is possible.

Someone must be wrong here. Can anyone confirm which way the tour will be going?

It's not going Mid-Cheshire.
The times you've seen are correct as far as I know.

Thank you for your reply.
I find it odd that one says it isn't going Mid-Cheshire and the other says it is.

RTC have never been much good at updating their web site. Or, indeed, getting the right info on it in the first place.

RTC can be a bit slow in getting their site updated, I understand they do not do it in house but employ a company who know nothing about railways, judging by the glaring errors which often appear.

So originally the tour was to use the CLC through Altrincham, Northwich and Delamere to Chester, but has now been rerouted via Victoria, Eccles, Warrington, Frodsham and Helsby.

Thanks for this info. I was originally going to head to Delamere for this. Will have to select another place now.

And via Diggle outward instead of the Hope Valley.
Oh yes, before that it was going via Copy Pit and the destination was Liverpool.
And it was supposed to be hauled by 70000...

Will the points problem at Heaton Norris be sorted by then? If not, I guess it might go Mid Cheshire after all, just as the Spitfire tour did yesterday.

It probably will be Mid Cheshire if the points problem isn't fixed. I just hope I don't end up at the wrong place on the day. Haha!

There are a couple of quiet country lanes east of Helsby where Steam is usually working well and at a fair speed.

34067 is now unavailable for this tour. As a result, "Black 5" 44871 will be the replacement.

Haha! When 44871 ran on a charter last December from Liverpool to York, it was 3 hours late and when it did eventually turn up there was a 156 in the way.

Hopefully, this won't happen again!

Nevertheless, thanks for the info!

hi everyone, new to this site. Is it just me or does Carnforth seem to be taking on to much with the result that locos recieving attention there seem to fail more often than others. Last year it was Scots Guardsman, now its Tangmere. They had all sorts of problems with the 2 load test runs & cancelled the positioning run south twice!
I have it on good authority they are under pressure to complete on upto two rakes of carridges & theyre struggling with those!...Discuss!!

It might be worth mentioning that the return journey from Brightside to Cleethorpes will be diesel hauled, but NOT the outward journey. This is according to uksteam.info.

44871 is on the way to Chester, but running a little late. Departed Cleethorpes almost an hour down, but she was up to 30 minutes late at Crowle.

That delay was no fault of 44871, the diesel that was to haul the stock and 44871 from Crewe to Liverpool failed at Crewe. The only available diesel was at Edge Hill so it had to go to Crewe first.
