322481 - When I was in Leeds yesterday I saw 322481 and it appeared to be in a new coat of paint nothing too fancy just northern blue with a couple of stickers on its sides, just wondering if my eyes were deceiving me or not. And are the rest of the 322's due to be re painted and has the interior had any work done or is there more Northern Branding to go onto them. So they would look more like a 15x unit rather than just plain blue.

It's had a disabled loo put in one of the end vehicles and one of the loos taken out the middle no more interior apart from a small seat shuffle in the above areas only. All seat cover same and pink around the doors. I'd expect the other 321/322 to have the same treatment for DDA purposes

I'd forgotten the 322s had 2 loos in them, unlike the 321/9s which only ever had one small one- I imagine the 321/9s will receive a new DDA loo like the 322s are getting then- but will presumably retain their one small toilet?

And 1st class seats taken out I believe

<( That's a shame... especially if the seizure-inducing colour scheme isn't being tempered!

Pretty sure the 321/9s have 2 toilets. Maybe you're getting mixed up with the 158/9s which only have the big toilet

321/9s have 2 small toilets too

Oh, my mistake then! Don't use them that often, and tend not to walk all the way down when I'm only going from Westgate to Leeds. Just assumed there was only the one because 2 seems rather excessive. Might have been thrown by the 333s only having one big toilet but certainly not anything non-electric!

I had thought the WY-electrics were the only East-side units that hadn't had seats recovered in Northern's house fabric, but was on a 153 on Saturday that looked like it had been patched up with a variety of cushions from at least 3 other dogboxes!

I note that the repainted units have a full yellow front which, iirc, they did not have in their ex-First Scotrail livery. Possibly an indication as to how Northern's 319s will look come December?

I'm confused - are they in Northern's actual livery now like the 323s (and everything else they operate, apart from the 333s, 321s and anything with a promotional livery)?

I wasn't aware any refurbishment attention was being given to them!

theres the odd picture on flickr of it

I can't find any! Can anyone link, please?

There's four on Flickr taken this month of 322481, all of which were taken at Doncaster Wabtec (not mine).

I noticed one a Doncaster last week - the full yellow end looks bloody awful in my opinion! Why they couldn't just leave it with yellow panel below the windscreen!

Completely agree, I've never been a fan of the 321s Dusty Bin appearance but they look worse with the full yellow end. I see they also now carry Metro branding so I presume the yellow face has been done to match these units to the 321/9s, complete with added ScotRail moquette by the sounds of it around the new loo area - quite likely given that Doncaster is also doing the same work for ScotRail.

The 321/9s and 323s have the same, though it doesn't go as far on the 323s and, imo, doesn't look too bad unlike the 321s.

I assume this is what the 319s will look like, plain blue with Northern logos.

I think there is a very good chance of that unfortunately. Given the recent fad for plain liveries (and given that Northern is currently a management contract), I suspect any repaints now will be into this plain livery with vinyl logos only.

The end where the disabled toilet is has also got a black triangle on the front of the can, im guessing this is so its easier for station staff to see what way round the train is and where the toilet / disabled accommodation is??

I actually prefer the full yellow front, on pretty much all stock: its absence just looks "wrong" on any British stock! But then it's a very subjective thing.

Just on 322481 now. I presume all the 322s and the 321/9s will be getting the same DDA toilet fitting, but will the 321s keep their current livery or turn deep blue like these 322s?
