Prompted by mention of the 322481 delivery run from York to London mentioned in '30 years ago' in Rail Express this month, the same unit appeared the following day at the Crewe Works Open Day, with info on the record breaking run, from memory. Did it just head back up WCML under own power, does anyone know?

I remember seeing it at the Works, tucked down out the way on a reception road. I suspect a number of people might have missed it.
I do remember seeing it at the Open Day aged 12 and being amazed it existed ('what's a 322? Why does it say Network SouthEast but has a green stripe?'), and then it also says 'new fastest EMU as of yesterday' on a board. Great day (plus 91s in various stages of construction, did I take any pics...no....)

It ran on its own. October 1990 Motive Power Monthly reported that it headed north right after the record run, stabling over night at Rugby.
After the Crewe open day, it was spotted parked in Bletchley CS on the 23rd.
