Indeed, whenever the 321 is not needed on the Abbey branch it seems to be parked up at Rugby, have seen it there before when the Abbey was closed for a weekend.

Pity it can't be used to extend a existing 4 car service to a 8 car service or a 8 car service to a 12 car service even if just temporary while the Abbey line improvements were ongoing....

Yes-an'-no. On the one hand I see your point. On the other hand, the regular users would expect the service strengthening all the time even after the unit has to go back to its usual (Abbey line) workings.
The operators probably think it better to keep as a strategic reserve in case of failure rather than have it arriving at some far-flung outpost just when they need it!
I photo'd it there yesterday (22nd) and exactly a week ago (15th) so it's definitely been there since before the weekend!
Yes, losing track of time. Pretty certain It was swapped at some point on the weekend of the timetable change so some time on 13th/14th December.
I also saw it there last week on Tuesday 16th.
They are also not gangwayed which probably makes it harder work too

With how packed my train was into Kings Cross this morning I wish it had coupled up to 321418!
Probably more trouble than it's worth, trouble is getting it back where it needs to be again, for example if it got to 4-car stabling slot as an 8-car set there would be a bit of a problem

I think it stables at Rugby as LM have no other depot/siding space to accommodate it

This is indeed the reason. Another unit (414?) is out of service awaiting wheelsets, therefore an 8 car 321 diagram has swapped for an 8 car 350 diagram.....and with the use of all the 350/3's they are tight for space at Kings Heath.
Bit rubbish if that's genuinely true. Loads of sidings around and they claim Rugby is the only place they can store it? What about the sidings just outside of Euston, electrified and rarely anything using them.

Camden carriage sidings are full between the peaks, on a normal working day.
It's a shame it's out there, though. 321 reliability has been poor recently, it's hardly usable as a hot spare 100 miles from where it's needed.

I don't think I mean Camden tough. Probably only a quarter of a mile outside Euston on the Eastern side are 3 or 4 track sidings. It's in the cutting section and I have once seen a pendolino in there but they appear to be empty about 99% of the time.
