with class 321/2 now starting to be withdrawn (warm store for now) how easy/difficult would it be to take the trailer car out of the formation(like they did for the sets transferred to scotrail) and insert then into class 150's to increase capacity?

Considering that 321s are EMUs and 150s DMUs, I imagine the wiring is very different.

Also, being un-powered that's going to really eat into the already not exactly blistering 150 performance either.

The wiring on both units will be different, you've also got to take into consideration that the class 321 non pantograph coach may also have motors and the length will be different. The internal gangways are also different - the 150's have a rubber concertina whereas the 321 have the band of plastic and flappy boards.

I'd rather see the class 321 fleet being bolstered to five or even cars, with any leftover coaches (pantograph or driving car) being stripped of parts to keep the fleet going. If anything the 150/2's should be broken up and inserted into the middle of the 50x class 150/1's to create a mixture of three and four car units. Again any leftovers get stripped of parts to keep the rest of the fleet going.
