511 was set on fire and was then used as a christmas tree.

514 broke down. Not 100% sure what was wrong with it but it went into Ilford and never came out again (and that must have been a year or two ago now).

That's what I thought when I found out. We had two 8 cars out on STEX workings yesterday- 668 & 882, 649 & 658. Not sure what's up with the 379's at the moment- but reliability hasn't exactly been good these last few weeks.

If things are going badly and the units all end up in the wrong places, can the 12-car Cambridge services use 317s if needed?

I presume these long-term out of service EMUs being repaired will have something to do with the end of the NX franchise next year.

I think there are still a few to fix though?

I seem to recall that operators have to hand back their rolling stock in a serviceable condition at the end of their franchise. Perhaps once these units have all been fixed the 7x317's that Abellio reckon are surplus wont be missed so much?

That's what I thought when I found out. We had two 8 cars out on STEX workings yesterday- 668 & 882, 649 & 658. Not sure what's up with the 379's at the moment- but reliability hasn't exactly been good these last few weeks.

317s on restricted duties will tend to get put on the Stansteds as they are very few other diagrams which do not split all day and they are high mileage diagrams so give a good work out.

511 didn't last long. It managed 3 trips to Stansted and has now gone back to Ilford (with 514) suffering from a loss of power.

This has, sort, been part of Abellio's point- along with cutting four diagrams from 8 to 4 carriages. It is, however, 9 317/7s.

Has it been confirmed that it is the 317/7s that are going back or is this just likely, and it could be any 317s (hopefully /5s) that are going back.

There it is on the last working to Stansted Airport. On arrival back at Liverpool St, they both went to Ilford Depot after 511 was suffering with power problems.

I think it will be the 7's going as they have the fewest seats. Perhaps someone can confirm the seating capacity.

Seems a bit odd for the /7s to be going back because they have plenty of luggage space for the Harwich boat trains. Although the /8s manage this with more seats I suppose (however from my experience the /8s are most commonly found on Cambridge services!). It was actually one of 502's driving cars that caught fire, this was swapped with one of 511's to keep 502 going, and 511 then became the Christmas tree. Until today.

The /7s do have lowest capacity- 2+2 seating in standard, 2+1 in 1st, large luggage racks, disabled access loo and the catering bases see to that. The main reason it is speculated it is the /7s though is that there's nine of them, and Abellio have said they're putting 36 carriages off lease.

Both units out again today. They managed a trip to the airport and back to London and the driver failed them. 511 suffering from a loss of power (again) and no PA.

Is there a chance that it will be some of the oldest /5s going off-lease and the /7s going back to West Anglia to replace them.
