Both Woking & Guildford are both bottlenecks for different reasons.

Woking's is it only has two up & down platforms, plus a bay which causes no end of conflicting moves in both directions (God knows what the idiots of Railtrack were thinking when they were working on the resignalling scheme there) & a junction on the flat (Portsmouth line).

Guildford's problem is Chalk Tunnel, just two tracks through it and only one being reversible (ideally it would be best if both lines were made reversible, with an additional set of points at either Shalford Junction or between St Catherines tunnel & Chalk tunnel) ,which would help ease congestion in times of disruption & generally aid flexibility.

Also there's the odd arrangement of accessing platform 3 from the down main, where you have to cross the up main first, the two tracks to/from platforms 2 & 3 need realignment to remove it. This may happen if anyone in NR has the brains when Guildford & Woking boxes close & transfer to Basingstoke ROC in 2017/18.
