Alrighty folks.

As some regular readers will be aware, I'm just about to do my driver tests for London Midland.
I am only required to do the second part - so the stuff that's done on the computer - as I have a first part test pass from Govia Thameslink. I have failed the second part already before, on the two handed co-ordination test. Apparently I wasn't fast enough.

I'm trying to find somewhere online I can practice for free, but I've had no joy as of yet. Can anyone recommend something I can use to practice what I'm expected to do? Will I only have to do the two-handed co-ordination, or will I have to do all three computer tests?

Just spend as much time on the practice runs as you can, I did then I breezed through the 10 proper runs. Remember speed and accuracy and don't matter if you buzz out loads of times.

Hi, now then... I made up a little practice rig using a piece of timber with two pens stuck in two drilled holes. Make sure the pens are able to move the right way as per the real thing (important obviously) and then practice following the practice shapes you should have, following an imaginary ball as you move the pens.... worked a treat for me!

Also to add, I was playing Rayman and old emulators that required some joystick action and it worked.

Get yourself the hand held game called bop it ,it's very good for getting your hand eye coordination up and it's what my toc suggested ! Good luck

Was this not what was used to sharpen your reactions for the old reaction test? I may of course be wrong but I cant see how this helps for using the 2 hands at once.
I photocopied the sheet that is in the RSSB pack and just did it with the 2 pens. Either it worked or I fluked it but I found it reasonably simple on the test, when I first practiced the paper one the lines I drew were shakey and I struggled to adjust my speed so I passed through the sections at the same time. After half a dozen practices my speed and accuracy were much improved, I also found it so much simpler after those few practices. If anything I'd say I personally found the paper and pens harder as you need to look at the 2 separate shapes for each hand but you only have one to concentrate on with the computer tests. Everyone is different though and you may find the paper easier and the computer harder.
I found it best to hold the pens in my fists so they're completely vertical like the joysticks are when you start on the comp.

All the best with your assessment plastictaffy, hope you pass it. When I did mine there was nobody else who had researched the assessments or the job role and were only there because they saw the salary drivers get. They subsequently failed so I hope your extra effort and research serves you well mate.

thhe bop it game is a reaction game aswell as hand eye coordination hence the reason why the toc suggest it .as for not sure how it helps for the two hand test well maybe it doesn't direct but during the second day assessments you will have to undergo a serious of test which include reaction .hand eye coordination plus what ever else there is ,so overall I believe if you practise all the different tests using a variety of different excerices you stand a better overall chance of procedding . Every one is different but this was how I looked at it and passed every thing first time round so I would say it did help .

Yeah, you could be on to something there as I suppose it will help with reactions for the grey square. It certainly would be good for the old reaction test when you needed to have hands and feet moving at the same time.
Realistically if you can't watch a square for 30mins when you know what's at risk then there's got to be something wrong with you. It's a boring test but surely nobody fails that one?
Out of all of the computer tests I'd probably say the traffic scenes was the trickiest. Just for the reason that you sometimes doubt yourself. I found myself thinking I'd add in a category as I assumed it would be present in the scenario that had popped up but opted to only choose what I had definitely seen and it worked out to be correct as like yourself I passed them all first time.
I did the stage 1 and stage 2 plus MMI on the same day and I'm glad I did. Was such a relief to have it all sorted in 1 go and then be able to go for a pint and relax after it!

Paepo - I can see some people would fail that one. I found my eyes started playing tricks with me - I'd think it had changed and hit the button!! Bop-It was the way forward for the old "Bells and whistles" test, but is not really relevant to the two handed co-ordination test.

Agree the box seemed to flash quicker at one point and appeared to get darker and darker

With the box, i had to look down to see if my finger was still hovering over the button then when i looked up, it had turned black so i pressed it. I had to kept blinking to keep my eyeballs moist but it never looked to gradually get darker to me. 32 mins goes quick i must say!

I was the same but I was looking about a little too (for VERY short moments) to give my eyes a rest. I thought I'd struggle to see after it but I was fine for doing the next test.
Are you kidding? I thought it lasted an age! Haha!
