OK, the 0808 service off Bolton to Manchester Airport was late coming into Bolton today, but thats due to signalling problems at PRE, but, just on the approach to Salford Crescent we had what felt like an emergency brake application followed by a slow trip into MCO and the front unit being taken out of service.

Any ideas as to what happened? Didn't have time to ask the driver or engineer at MCO as I had to leg it to work...

It's the three letter code for Manchester Oxford Road. Every station has a three letter code to identify it on various systems etc.

And thats also what caused the Emergency Brake Application north of Salford?

As a guess, if the Driver's seat collapsed this may have caused the Driver to release the DSD and this will have caused the brake application.

And there was me thinking it was agressive driving, until I realised that it wasn't at a signal. Is one of the two busyest trains into Manc from Bolton aswell, and already 12 late...

I think that may have happened the other day as we were pulling into Liverpool Lime Street on a Northern. He got half way down the platform and the brakes suddenly slammed on. He had to use some more gas to complete the move into the platform. I saw him leaving the cab shaking his head at somebody as though to say, 'sorry' :)

If it was in multiple then it may have been a case of the electrical pins in the coupling moving slightly out of alignment which causes the brakes to dump. Can happen when moving slowly through sharp curves or pointwork.
