Class 43s were, and still are, more intensively utilised.
HSTs have higher annual millages but the 47/7 did circa 2,900 tops hours per loco, per annum which was the highest of any BR owned loco. (Only the Yeoman 59's were higher)
I am looking at the figures here in a RAIL mag from Oct 1990.
And at the time.. 43xxx was a DM or DMB of class 253 or 254.
