Out: 2V56 0909 BRI-YAE 166-205
Return: 2T49 1707 YAE-SML 166-220 Three min late otherwise nominal
Return: 2K52 1746 BRI-SML 166-205 (Cancelled from Weston: Unknown cause (ZW)): started Platform 1 bay

As the football was on Sunday I decided to risk a train trip on Saturday, so went from SML-YAE and back to try the Cotswold plateau on a moderately warm day. Noted that the 0754 to BRI was cancelled and decided that the 0820 was a better option anyway, being a little later and less likely to have an 800 on the BRI-YAE leg.
Tapped in 0806, to find confused passengers already at SML, one of whom had intended to catch the 0754, which I had seen as cancelled on National Rail about 0630, but other sources apparently did not show this. Also no sign of the 0804 for Severn Beach, including on the screen, I now see that this ran about half an hour late. Reassuringly one of the others had seen a train going out to Avonmouth whilst walking towards the station and the 0820 did run.
Returning from Yate, the guard announced that the SVB train would be on platform 5. A slight delay buying a newspaper in the subway avoided going there before a change to platform 1 appeared on the screens. Platform 1 is a bay, so the service plainly had not come from Weston (WSM), which was cancelled unkown cause. Cancellations of WSM services at BRI seem to have been common recently.
The SML summary for the day is a sorry sight. There was a time when the service would run for a month without cancellations.
As the morning train to YAE left BRI it announced that the next stop was Dorchester West, possibly progressing after a while to Bradford-on-Avon. Reassuringly the guard got in straight away with an statement that it was a Gloucester train, and the two stops.
On the return from BRI to SML the automatic announcement told us that the next stop was Bradford-on-Avon, progressing through Freshford and Bath before getting back on course at Montpelier. Seems to have been the same unit in both cases: 166-205
PAYG worked correctly. Succeeded in getting an all turbo round trip so cycle accommodation probably best available.
(In between the trains cycled up through Little Sodbury to Luckington & Sherston then back across through Wickwar. Much warmer day than planned, got a little sunburnt, but failed to reach Tetbury, truncating the ride to a 55 km round trip through the villages.)
