is it a new thing AWC is doing?
thanks

out of interest how could you tell that pleaseNo, it will be a single Pendolino.
that's what I was thinking that no platform could take it. maybe it could tow the other emptyPendolinos do not operate in multiple except in a emergency. No platforms would take a 22 coach train. It is likely there has been a set swap at some point during the day and both Pendolinos are showing allocated to the same service.
No, as stated above it will be due to a set swap and systems are still 'hanging on' to both unit numbers.that's what I was thinking that no platform could take it. maybe it could tow the other empty
It'll likely be that the service was originally one of the listed units, then later swapped to the other one but the first unit number hasn't been deleted, hence showing as two units totalling 22 coaches.that's what I was thinking that no platform could take it. maybe it could tow the other empty
funny that it has happened 2 times for trains going to/from MAN todayIt'll likely be that the service was originally one of the listed units, then later swapped to the other one but the first unit number hasn't been deleted, hence showing as two units totalling 22 coaches.
Similar amusing errors arise with LNER and GWR allocations at times, where two full length units totalling perhaps 18 coaches are shown erroneously in the allocation for instance.
I think the Manchester route has some of the shorter turnarounds, so any late inbound arrivals are more likely to lead to stepping up sets, swapping them with one off another service, to get the outbound departure leaving on time or as near on time as possible.funny that it has happened 2 times for trains going to/from MAN today
Equally, also couldn't resist looking. When you look at tomorrow, the Manchester service should form off the 08.24 arrival into Euston (platform 7 today). This was 390128 (the duplicate) which left at 08:40 to Edinburgh. This leaves 390153 to be the one running to Manchester, Birmingham and back to Manchester again.I couldn't resist looking!
Interestingly it shows as such back to this morning, when 390153 arrived Euston platform 3 at 0838 alone from Wolverhampton, then left with its 390 128 'addition'.
It has subsequently done round trips to Manchester, Birmingham and Manchester again.
(We can of course consider it likely that it was actually either one or the other!)
I have once made a list of where one of the class390 goes in a day I was surprised by how many different routes it was onI think the Manchester route has some of the shorter turnarounds, so any late inbound arrivals are more likely to lead to stepping up sets, swapping them with one off another service, to get the outbound departure leaving on time or as near on time as possible.
It's changed a bit since Virgin High Frequency days, since Avanti introduced the current base timetable, but even when everything runs as booked they still swap routes a few times over the day usually.I have once made a list of where one of the class390 goes in a day I was surprised by how many different routes it was on
just had a look on RTT for TFW and it looks like they run the same train for most of the day from Crewe to Chester hope it's not the same driver going running that route for hours no stops in between and only a 20 minute journeyIt's changed a bit since Virgin High Frequency days, since Avanti introduced the current base timetable, but even when everything runs as booked they still swap routes a few times over the day usually.
I think that normally Liverpools swap with Birminghams and Glasgows with Manchesters but that's probably not the full picture.
To be fair, it's not unique to Avanti, plenty of other TOCs will have some complex diagrams with units interworking working between several routes.
Before the HSTs came in, some ScotRail 170 diagrams had some very varied duties over a single day; less so now but you still get some units doing 3 different routes or so.
Spare a thought for the drivers on the Stourbridge shuttlejust had a look on RTT for TFW and it looks like they run the same train for most of the day from Crewe to Chester hope it's not the same driver going running that route for hours no stops in between and only a 20 minute journey
