2105 Glasgow Central to Edinburgh Waverley XC

I've been on this service once before but I've never understood the reason to divert to avoid Haymarket just to terminate at the eastbound platform 7. Surely it makes more sense to run this service to a through platform?

I'd imagine it's to maintain route knowledge via the Edinburgh Suburban line.

I believe it is to retain route knowledge whenever engineering works take place at the Princes Street end.

Also, I think this train then runs to Craigentinny Depot afterwards.
