A long weekend away in Hungary, primarily for the Balaton Retro Weekend, which was excellent. Before making it out to Lake Balaton, there was some "unfinished business" to take care of first... MÁV have been hiring in five Rail Cargo Hungaria/ÖBB Taurus locos (1116016-020) on a medium-term basis. On my last visit back in April, 1116018 was away at Linz works for revision, meaning I'd missed that one (but had 1116002 which was working in its place). Checking the excellent online mappers that show allocations, determined that it was out at Lokoshaza overnight, so an early morning trip to Szolnok was made to cover its back working - result!
After that it was to the event on the north shore of Lake Balaton which was excellent and thoroughly recommended. Highlight was M62-001, which was by far the most impressive M62 I have had to date.
As MÁV are leasing an increasing amount of traction, there's locos from different countries to be had in Hungary now. The winners were...
