The price of both petrol and diesel is going down, diesel more so than petrol.

Also for certain groups of people car insurance has dropped - insurance companies can't now charge you more for being a 'dangerous male driver' opposed to a 'gentle female driver.'

So in fact what should have been said was certain people are finding the cost of motoring is going down. Although it's a common thing for people just to use the cost of fuel as a guide to the cost of motoring forgetting all the other costs to keep a car on the road which can include many things people forget to add such as parking

Some workplaces offer employees free parking, others don't. Some towns have actually reduced town centre parking charges in an attempt to get shoppers back, others have increased charges. Some people need to buy a permit to park outside their home, most people don't. It all depends where you live, work and shop, saying reduced on average doesn't mean no-one's running costs have increased.

It's the same on the train. People using stations from Stratford Int DLR to Canning Town and travelling towards London will be seeing costs substantially fall.

I notice that a journey I occasionally do from Alfreton to York has gone up from £28.10 to an amazing £70.20 if I now travel before the 0944 departure. I was always surprised that there were no peak time restrictions on this Off Peak Return and kept quiet about it in these forums. I suppose they were bound to notice the anomally eventually but it wil be a huge shock for anyone who regularly does that journey.

My immediate reaction was that means going by car and using Park and Ride from now on. Then I discovered it can still be done for approx £33 by splitting.

... and if you split, there is very little XC can do about it.

The didn't pay to take over flows only for things to stay the same.
