This represents a 7% increase over the 2013-14 figure, compared with a 14% increase recorded for Navigation Road. By itself, the figures would suggest that Altrincham's rail platforms were closed, or at least that access to them was restricted (whether from the road, from Metrolink or for 'bus passengers) for part of the 2014-15 reporting year. I don't know what was actually happening with the station, though.

Both platforms 3 and 4 (the heavy rail platforms) remained open, except for a couple of Sundays while the new bridge was lifted in to place and the old one removed. Although how they were accessed from Stamford New Road changed and the old bus station was demolished and replaced by a new one meaning buses stopped at temporary bus stops. The ticket office was also closed and replaced by a temporary one on platform 4 - I think that's the real reason for the apparent drop in usage for 14/15.

On another topic, one thing I noticed in the report was that page 18 identifies Farringdon (which has a 73% increase listed for some reason) as being a London Terminal.

Farringdon is part of the London Terminals station group. Central London Stations would probably be a better name for the group, but it's pretty much always been called London Terminals.

Damn, could have sworn Farringdon and City Thameslink were in it. Doesn't seem to make sense to treat them differently.

Farringdon isn't, but City Thameslink is included in the group, though it is not a terminal.

I see that despite the predictions that passengers at Hanborough in particular would all desert GWR the instant that Oxford Parkway opened, traffic at Hanborugh was up by 11% to 271,496 (in 2010-11 it was just 119,000), taking it past Evesham to become the second busiest station between Oxford and Worcester.

Charlbury was up 7% to 327,518, so still the busiest Cotswold Line station by a distance.

What would be interesting to know in the context of Oxford Parkway is what the numbers of people using the M40 coaches from the Thornhill park-and-ride are looking like.

First 11 months of Todmorden Curve services:

. 2014/15. 15/16
Accrington 382,678. 433,618
Rose Grove. 43,176. 57,258
Burnley:
Manchester Rd. 273,000. 393,304
Central. 145,328. 128,614

Good increase for Manchester Road, though I'd imagine a further sizeable increase will be hoped for next year. Predictably smaller increase at Accrington, as the service is far less attractive there. The drop at Central was to be expected with reduced ticket office hours and better service to Blackburn from Manchester Road.

Does anyone know if Northern Irish and Irish station usage statistics are published as well? I would be interested to compare some of their stations to England / Wales / Scotland stations.

When I was updating Wikipedia stats, I just saw that Dyce had a massive fall from 824k to 664k! Were there any service outages to justify this?

Isn't Dyce the station near to Aberdeen Airport?

A fall in flying numbers caused by the sharp drop in oil prices?

I've not got a machine capable of reading the figures. Have Bicester Village and Oxford Parkway had an impact on Bicester North and Haddenham & Thame?

Bicester Village - 413k
Oxford Parkway - 275k
Bicester North - 1417k (down from 1696k)
Haddenham - 804k (up from 763k)

Thanks. Its interesting how Irish Rail shows passengers per day rather than passengers per year. Do you have any idea if Translink Northern Ireland Railways publish their usage statistics?

Here are some very high level figures at line level

Ta. Interesting to see an overall growth. I thought Haddenham might actually decline this year. Presumably Marylebone has cleared 16m passengers in the latest figures? Still small by London terminal standards but passenger numbers must have quadrupled in the past dozen or so years. I think only St Pancras has had similar growth but obviously that is practically a different station to the the one which existed pre Eurostar and HS1.

Surely the figures for LO are not from strikes but the closure of GOBLIN as i dont remember any strikes with them

Heathrow Connect +15.4% (?)

There was a reduction in the frequency of some of the off peak GWR local services presumably because of the electrification work. Perhaps there's a formula related to frequency of trains which divides up the passenger numbers from Hayes to Paddington between Heathrow Connect and GWR.

There were massive issues with the suspension on the HEx stock last year so Connect services were cancelled so they could use the Connect stock on HEx...

A number of GTR passengers will have moved from Southern to South Eastern. Others have realised they can work from home and are therefore doing it now when they never did.

I'm pretty sure they're not - and that would lead to double-counting when the passenger exchanges their permit to travel for a ticket.

Or is a ticket after a PTT not counted, in case it isn't exchanged for whatever reason.

Big falls from London there, which I'm surprised about. Is it just strikes & engineering work or is there bigger economic factors at play here?

Can't really understand why London Overground fell 6% in one quarter? Same with TfL rail?

Just a thought, and accepting that this post is from last December, might it not have been a better idea to start a new thread for 2016-2017, rather than extending the annual discussion for the previous financial year? That might pre-empt someone else starting a new thread when the next annual report is issued.

I'm not certain that this happens in a significant enough number to skew statistics in any meaningful way. Over the course of a year, over millions of journeys, are there really enough people buying tickets from other stations just for the hell of it so as to play around with ORR number crunching?

14,742 entry/exits at Pevensey Bay.

I suppose my annual season ticket from there to Pevensey and Westham contributes to that, although I've not been there since 1974?

To be honest the stats don't usually get much replies so it reduces clutter. If you notice there were 0 replies when I posted Q2.

That is strange, although if there was a wider economic factor at play, I would expect as great, if not greater calls for the regional network.
