What that shows is that rather than upgrade the WCML to the extent they did, HS2 should have been built in the early 2000s. Then intermediate stops would now be well linked into a long-distance network that doesn't eat up core paths south of Rugby.

re lack of intermediate calls on the WCML I really do feel for people in places like Rugby and Nuneaton who suffered years of disruption and blockades while the WCML was upgraded only to end up with a worse intercity service than they had previously.

Don't feel too badly for us Rugby people - we have plenty of trains to where we really want to go in any numbers - London, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Coventry and Birmingham. As for Woodford Halse, Leamington, Lutterworth and Seaton Junction.........

This has been gone through numerous times - Glasgow-Preston has been decreed the longest, followed by Central Rivers-Holyhead.

Notts-Liverpool follows well after those two.

I'm sure we'll go over this again & again & again until TPx (maybe) takes over the Liv-Nrw. For some reason (slow journey times?) people think it's longer than it actually is.
