Why isn't a vestibule enough for the guard?
I assume the issue is local door operation means all passengers have to enter or leave by the same door, through the same vestibule that the guard is at. If it's just one stop out of ten then it's probably fine, but doesn't the 185 on Barton need that mode of operation at almost all stops?

Having the whole train alighting via one single door all the time is not a sensible method of work in a pandemic, agree with the union and TPEs ops standards boss on that one.

No wonder this new covid variant is spreading when train companies are doing this. I would bring this up with a newspaper. During times of social distancing to do this is not acceptable.
Transport will account for a tiny %age of the current spread. The spread of this variation is down to some pretty specific circumstances, none of which involve trains.

Though of course, certainly at this point anyway, the risk of death or injury due to using road transport rather than the train will be far higher than the risk/chance of catching Covid...

Isn't it York that has achieved something of a national reputation for drunks on trains?
York is extremely popular for days out, especially on weekends, as it is a very nice city with plenty of pubs and bars.

Ah yes I've seen this before where passengers boarding at York are only allowed to occupy a selected area of a train, so as not to disturb the other passengers.

This is due to lots of drunk people boarding at York, and people boarding there heading back to certain destinations are assumed to be part of the herd ;)
This happens with the last LNER service back to the north east on a Saturday night. Passengers already on board are told beforehand so they can move if they wish. The drinkers are usually happy to be grouped together.

Perhaps they should adopt Merseyrail's policy and refuse travel to drunks
Pre Covid, the TOCs did very well from the revenue of people heading to York on a weekend so it would not be in their interests to do so. Also if you refuse them travel you would just pass the problem onto someone else. Bear in mind we are not talking about one or two individuals, more like hundreds.

That’s not really true as Covid is still just as catchable as it ever was, with some variants allegedly more contagious than previous. The difference is that it’s statistically less likely to kill the same number or have the same effect due to the amount of population vaccinated in the UK.

Not all traincrew are vaccinated and the last thing a TOC would want is traincrew off with being ill

The 185 turn on the line has also been removed due to social distancing concerns with the local door operation, causing the main Grimsby morning commuter train to be withdrawn - I can't see this ever being reinstated.

If the 185 turn was part of the ‘Northern’ service it won’t be reinstated with a 185 as EMR traincrew will shortly be taking over the route.

TPE have only been helping to cover staffing since the route handover from Northern to allow for EMR crew to be route trained, once this has fully taken place, TPE will no longer be involved with the Barton Line
