2 Security Alerts onboard LNER 09/10/25

I saw today that 1Z13, Edinburgh - Kings Cross, was called in as a substitute to the cancelled 1E13, Inverness - Kings Cross, which was said to be cancelled at Avimore owing to a Security Alert (Code - VI).

I thought nothing of it other than I hadn't seen that attribution code before now. However, 1W16 Kings Cross - Inverness was then also cancelled at Perth tonight, also due to a Security Alert (Code - VI). Both services seem to have been making good time until the sudden cancellation? Does anyone know of or has anyone heard anything further on the matter?

I believe it was a train fault, unsure where security alert came from.

LNER tweet attached, the tweet from train 1E13 0755 Inverness to London appears to have been deleted, which states due to a train fault the train would return to Inverness.

1W16 would be terminating at Perth, so the set can return to Craigentinny, as they already have a set up in Inverness.

Due to a fault on a train, the 12:00 #LondonKingsCross to #Inverness due 20:07 will be terminated at Perth.

You don't need to rebook, amend, or change your original ticket.

Rail replacement will be in place on arrival into Perth.

Sounds like an incorrect coding - 1E13 was terminated at Aviemore due to a smoke alarm being activated. 1W16 was terminated as a knock on effect to 1E13 fault, 1E13 went back to Inverness this morning and I suspect that the fault has been fixed, but to rebalance units it will now form tomorrow morning's 1E13 so 1W16 has gone back to Craigentinny.

The post from 'AMD' is correct, with the exception that the unit involved (from 1E13 today) will be running south ECS tomorrow.

1E13 tomorrow will start at Perth, using a unit which will run ECS from Craigentinny (the unit working 1W16 today)

Perhaps the fault couldn't be rectified at Inverness?

And thus ultimately the unit at Inverness will need to be worked south out of service to Craigentinny perhaps for fuller attention.

There is now a 5Z13 to get the unit to Doncaster Carr, pathed as normal to Perth then looped and slower to finally arrive around 1615.

Out of interest, does Craigentinny not deal with faults of this nature then, or is there another reason for sending it all the way to Doncaster?

Usually depot capacity. And Doncaster is where that unit should have ended up tonight, so also other work also planned.

Stood to reason there would be a logic behind it.
