Today, around 1028 I saw what I swear was a 2-carriage Meridian heading southbound between Leagrave and Harlington.

I know that they tested the WiFi in this configuration up north, but it seemed quite bizarre to see one down here.

I don't think I was seeing things. It'd have to have been extremely fast for me to mistake a 4 carriage set for it.

I'm not sure what it was you saw as Meridians cannot work in two car formations. The driving vehicles are not fitted with compressors.

Sorry but Wi-Fi was not tested on 2 car Meridians. Apart from the reason above preventing 2 car sets running, the main Wi-Fi equipment is located in the 606xx vehicle (the vehicle with the small buffet).

222104 was working 1B26 09.02 Nottingham - St. Pancras which passed Leagrave at 10.30. I can only assume that it was this that you saw.

Well it must have been going very fast, but I can usually count 4 carriages even when going through. But whatever.

No 2 carriage Meridian? Maybe not moving, but, wow. Railway Herald must have spent a long time photoshopping an image!

Infact, googling 2 car Meridian brings up this...

PleasE do check your sources.

Just adding in to support someone else, definitely can't do 2 car as compressors aren't fitted to the DM cars.

I have no idea what you saw and wouldn't dream of telling you that you saw something you didn't.

However, 2 Meridian driving cars cannot work together as they are not fitted with compressors and therefore would not be able to create the air required to release (and apply) the brakes. Given your timings, 222104 a 4 car unit was heading South at the time you mentioned. Perhaps it was that, perhaps it wasn't? And as far as I am aware we didn't have any 158's on test down that way today (the only 2 car units with a similar livery)

Railway Herald didn't need to photoshop that image as two driving cars were stabled together at Etches Park. These vehicles were surplus from "mixing" 222101 and 222022 together to form a hybrid 222005 while the original vehicles were being repaired following the East Langton derailment. Apart from a bit of shunting in the yard, these vehicles did not move.

As for checking my sources, well I work for EMT and was heavily involved in the Wi-Fi project so I know exactly who my sources are. ;)

I did say i accept they can't work in such a configuration. I did not say outright it was a 2 car Meridian I saw, i said what I thought was but that it seemed crazy. It was definetly short and in a white livery.

I asked what it could be, not a lecture on the technicalities.

I know what you posted and I was trying to explain why it couldn't have been a 2 car Meridian.

I also thought you might be interested in the background as to why the two driving vehicles were stabled at Derby. Apologies you saw this information as a "lecture".

That's true and I apologise for my reaction. But I realise it couldn't have been which I am frustrated at the repetition of the same information regarding the compressors.

I know LO 172s went on test runs on the line, but doubt any are left and don't know the status of Chilterns?

I have always wondered if they could operate Meridians as 2 cars. Would be nice to see them increased to 9 cars again. Is there any Meridian drivers on here?
Many Thanks

Could it have been a 4 car Meridien with two engines out? If that was to pass you it could possibly give you the impression of it being only a two car?

No i saw it rather than heard it, All i saw was a yellow front, some blue and white, and it passed extremely quickly and looked like 2 carriages for sure.
