2 car 153 unit, 153399

I'm getting thoroughly confused now. Anyway, from what I've seen, it doesn't seem all that uncommon for the two-car unit parts of three-car sets (I'm doing it myself now) to run as standard two-car units.

158s are 2 car units as standard. They've split some of the sets though and added half of the split 158 to the 2 car standard set to create extra capacity

I personally think of those 2-car 158s with half of another 2-car 158 coupled onto them as 'fake' 3-car 158s. FGW do of course have one 'real' 3-car 158, the centre car of which has no cabs at all. I've read somewhere that this is the last 'real' 3-car 158 which has the same centre car it was built with, the other 158 centre cars are now either in sets renumbered as class 159 or moved to work with a different pair of driving cars.

Now if the centre car of one of these 'real' 3-car 158s was replaced with a 153, that could probably be termed a hybrid.
