Two trains damaged by vandalism (Source BBC Nth East Wales website)

Two trains have been damaged by an object that police say was deliberately suspended from a railway bridge.
A Llandudno to Manchester train struck the object near Shotton Low Level station, Deeside, Flintshire, at 2035 BST Saturday, smashing its cab window.
Around 90 minutes later a Holyhead to Crewe train did the same. No one was hurt but both trains were removed from service for repair.
A police spokesman said: "Whoever did this put people's lives at risk."
He added: "At this stage it appears that these were two serious acts of vandalism and that it was fortunate that neither train driver was injured.
"We have been collecting forensic evidence and are following other lines of enquiry. It is very important that anyone with information contacts us immediately."

The Llandudno-Manchester route is operated by 175s. The second train was the last train from Holyhead that night, which is invariably a 158.

No one has said it was kids!

Brick on a rope has been around for a long time.I had one on the Caterham line 5 years ago and it pulled the whole 2nd mans windsreen out pulling a weighted road sign off a bridge onto the roof of the train. They really need to treat this as attempted murder and you can not blame the parents if they are kids, they didn't tell them to do it!!!! The little brat that did my train got caught and he was 14 and his parents were very well off and upper class.

100% agree with that.

When cases like this go to court, what are the usual defence arguments used to try and 'justify' the actions of the perpetrators?

Makes your blood boil! I hate that part of Wales, well you really can't call it Wales either!

What a silly responce to a serious situation,Flintshire is in Wales even though
a few nationalists think Wales ends at the River Conwy.

Proud to say I am a welsh nationalist, and it's true to say even tho Flintshire is in Wales (I did do a Geography degree at Bangor thank you), it's a very English part of Wales! It wasn't a silly statement, just a true statement. Ans if you take a look at last weeks released BTP stats for crime on North Wales railways, most took place in Shotton, Flint or Rhyl.

I've spoken to a platform member at Bangor today and they have a lead on the troublemakers, but not enough evidence to warrant an arrest at the moment.

Flintshire is a border County,as is Wrexham where the majority of people live in North Wales.
Rhyl is the largest town in Denbighshire, you may dislike the English, but on this site, lets keep race out of it.

Eh?! Those comments don't mean I dislike the English!!! All I was saying is I don't like some of the people who live in that area, may they be Welsh or English!

Back on topic I think now.

I've never experienced anything like this.

Have I just been very lucky, or is it more common in certain parts of the country?
