My wife has booked first class tickets for a reasonable price in February to meet friends in London from our home in Somerset.

Apparently the website states they have wider seats but in a 2+2 formation. Now I'm no expert but surely a trains width is finite and so is the room to get a food trolley through. Even though its only £14 more for the return has she been ripped off for what seems nothing more than a phone charger!

This is the Exeter to Waterloo route. I wonder if they have some Harry Potter style magic to fit 4 in but wider than standard.

They aren't 2+2 nor is there a food trolley or indeed any catering!

Class 159's run by SWR on that route are 2 + 1 in first class, I use it regularly and tend to pay the extra to upgrade, seats are bigger and more comfortable and I like the extra space.

As per other poster, the food trolley stopped a while ago, which is a shame

Once saw SWR First Class for Exeter Central to Waterloo cheaper than GWR standard from St David's to Paddington!
